OK, multiple threads about Street Legal Oil Boost (SLOB) on this site...but after reading them all, including what it adds to the oil, i have yet to see:

what exactly it will do?
does it clean sludge?
does it get rid of ticks?
does it increase mileage?
what, other than zinc, are the active ingredients?
what cars should you avoid using it in?
what cars would really benefit from it?
should you run it every oil change?
does it extend the OCI?
etc etc....

Thanks for the patience!

Zinc, phosphorus, and calcium are in SLOB. I believe the calcium will act as detergent but also has other functions. Zinc and phosphorus for those who want or need to raise those levels in their oil. Will protect high performance camshafts. Will extend OCI to some degree, not sure how much. I think the zinc/phosphorus and the calcium both will help boost TBN, which may be the main reason it would extend OCI. We don't know the TBN on SLOB, but the CD2-75K stuff had a tested TBN of 16.2 with lower zddp levels, but way more calcium. I think the lab said the TBN number they got correlated well with the level of calcium, so it may be more a calcium thing, but I think the zddp helps too.

does slob help prevent sludge?

Yes, it should in the manner that the zddp and calcium "dope up" the level of detergent/dispersant/anti-oxidant additives in the oil, preventing breakdown of the base oil and preventing aggregation of sludge particles.

I think the calcium may help with cleaning, as suggested by the following post from this thread :

So if I bought a calcium based detergent that claims to clean all engine parts, it is actually removing and suspending sludge? Am I right?

To some degree, CA sulfonate is used in Industrial rust inhibiting oils and will also nutralize acids and help to suspend and clean sludge/varnish in a PCMO.

one last question, can i add SLOB to my Kendall GT1 in the F150....that synthetic has about 3k on it.

Maybe the best time to add it.
Some of the oils boundry layer additives have been depleated, so a boost with the SLOB would be a plus part way through a OCI.
My 2¢

Well,SLOB boosts the zddp and calcium, making your PCMO a bit more like HDMO. I know people have run ARX with HDMO, so seems to me it should be fine to run ARX with Slobbed PCMO. OTOH, for the short OCI interval, it may not matter. Well, you know the SLOB is not necessary, just doing it for fun, so you engine won't suffer an OCI or two or three without SLOB. If you already SLOBBED your oil, no problem, ARX it too. Anyway, that's how I see it.

Well i'm doing a long 11 hour road trip, highway speed, stopping for gas and food.
I'm wondering how the Petro Can conventional and ARX will hold up to the temps, and rpm's

on the oil.. temps etc. should I worry about lubrication at 11 hours of straight running? thats alot of heat and alot of stress on the oil, will it still properly lubricate?

Posted 9000 mile UOA results in original UOA thread. It didn't look too bad to me (but what do I know) and Bruce said the lab report indicated abnormal on iron and aluminum. Anyway, he said I might as well change it out soon. I added half a quart of Neutra 131 to the oil and will run it until 10,000 miles or my oil OCD forces me to change it sooner. I'll see if I can post the blotter tonight.
