slick 50 is adequate

ok i will admit that i have bashed products before even trying them. yes it is stupid and juvenile, but i have learned my lesson and because of that i am smarter now

last week my brother decided to test slick 50's capability in his beat up pile of junk jeep. he drained the oil, then re filled with Pennzoil conventional and slick 50. drove about 1 hour and then dumped it (that was sunday afternoon). he drove the [censored] out of it the next two days, and put about 120 miles on it, when finally the engine seized up and died (tuesday night). keeping in mind my brother had 5 cars, and the jeep was only worth like $25 and the jeep was going to the wrecking yard any way. in my opinion that is impressive, and i think slick 50 is decent stuff. i will never bash a product unless i have bad luck with it.

dont be bashing z max now! it saved my fuel economy! i spent 50 bucks, which made my wallet lighter. in turn that took a few ounces off my total body weight, which took drag off the vheicle. my mileage went up .00216%

was this a 4.0 by chance? We ran one for several days without oil and with coolant in the engine and it took forever before it threw a rod through the block,and the thing still ran! we drove it Wendys through the drive through lol

no it was a 2.5 I4. interesting to hear about your 4.0. they were built like a tank.

The 2.5 I4 is just the AMC I6 with 2 cylinders cut off. Similar durability. Really a shame to kill it though, even if its not worth anything, someone would love a free car.

Try that with water and sodium silicate in there.

next time i come across a junker I will have to give it a try. a lot of the time i will get free stuff from truckers at my work, and so i like to find guinea pig engines (usually junk motors from friends, and personal collection) and test these so called products out to see if they actually work. the results are always interesting

I think this is more a testament to the engine than to Slick-50.

The 2.5 is a big 4-cylinder...how much oil is 'hiding' in passages, nooks and crannies, to keep the engine going?

If it was a 97+ ..send me the head. No one liked the 4 banger ..but there don't seem to be many in the junkyard. Getting one for salvage is difficult.

Almost but not quite. It's the same basic design, but the 2.5L has more displacement/cylinder than the 4.0L I6 did. They used a longer stroke, and bigger bore than the I6 to get the final displacement of 2.5L. The 2.5 is a stout engine, like its big 6 brother.

As Jdblya and addyguy inferred, this experiment would have a lot more credence if you run a "control sample" to see how it performs without the Slick 50 treatment.

Tell ya what. Next time i run across a 2.5 I 4 at the junk yard I will run it with out oil, and no slick 50 and see how long until it blows up. BTW tough engine or not, this experiment was conducted by my brother to see how well a product works. It was by no means meant to endorse a product. You all can credit the engine for it's toughness or you can credit the product. I DON'T CARE! It was just our results with the experiment
