Looking to change both front wheel bearings in our Volvo XC70. Any preference between FAG and SKF when it comes to wheel bearings? SKF are £75 each and FAG are £60 each.

No experience with either, but I did install a moog, front right, Timken front left around 80k ago in a Nissan. Moog had to be replaced but the timken is still going strong. I know this doesn’t help much.

We used both in commercial maintenance when I worked at Ford. Both brands were high quality back in the day.

Unfortunately it seems that with the near-constant corporate acquisitions, mergers, and supply chain issues, there's no telling what you'll get these days ...

unfortunately, there could be anything in those boxes these days. They could both be SKF, both FAG or both from the same Chinese bearing factory.

I'm buying from AUTODOC so hope they'll be somewhat reliable.

That said, the power steering pump I bought from them was an ESEN SVK 'brand' and was awful. When I googled the company they were just a warehouse in Poland that I suspect are buying junk from China and selling it on.

Would recommend trodo.com over Autodoc.

it's not an autodoc thing, it's an SKF/FAG thing. They often don't make their own if they can buy it elsewhere cheaper and put it in their own boxes.

I trust FAG, Schaeffler Group. Just recently fitted two front wheel bearings, arms and drop links made by them. Seemed very good quality,

The bearings were made in Slovakia, the arms/links Turkey. The front arms replaced two Moog examples that lasted less than 35,000 miles.

I wouldn't touch Meyle myself, not a very reliable brand IMO. Their brake pads were awful, just the worst.
Meyle is a Chinese part repackager. Similar to Febi Bilstein but a grade lower. Or similar/maybe slightly better than üro. At least FB sometimes uses OEM/first world parts.

On occasion I’ve used Meyle parts for items that are NLA. Üro is actually decent in terms of looking into niche parts and then improving on them. But the thing is you end up a guinea pig.

For bearings, Meyle isn’t a consideration. SKF, FAG, INA are all good, but for each application check COO and what is the latest on model specific forums.
