I am not sure if health questions normally are asked, but I wanted to see if someone has experienced this issue. My wife has had sinus problems for a few years. She actually went through a surgery to correct the problem.
For two months after surgery, her nose and breathing were fine. Then, she went back to her normal state of constant headaches and breathing problem.
When we discussed this with her doctor, he told us it sometimes takes two or three surgeries to fully correct the problem.
I do NOT want her to go through that again, as it was pretty painful to her.
My question is: anyone treat this problem in other ways with success?

I have the same issues plus histoplasmosis. I take olive leaf extract twice daily (2 caps each dose). It seems to have reduced the number of sinus infections I get. I am actually moving to South Florida in 3 years when my youngest graduates high school because of these issues. You can get olive leaf extract on amazon or any health food store. Tell her to take large doses initially (maybe 8 caps a day) for a month then go to twice daily dosage.

I would never do the surgery. I get relief down South. Take her swimming in the Gulf Of Mexico.

Also, have her eat 2-4 dannon yogurts daily. If she has been taking anti-biotics the probiotic effects of yogurt will over time help your body replace the natural bacteria that fights infection.

I am far from a total believer in a lot of the "natural" medications, but a few weeks ago the Dr.s that FOX have on Sunday mornings mentioned Nettle Tea as a healthful natural substitute for allergy meds among other things. My wife & I have been drinking 1 cup of nettle tea a day for almost 2 weeks now, IT WORKS, at least for us.

South FL..?
This place is the ideal tropical pollen area.Close enough to the equator to call it the sub tropics, but I contest that theory.. and say the tropic of cancer and capricorn should be extended at least one hundred miles in either direction.Maybe it was fine 200 years ago,but not now.

Moving here will not do you or yours any good.I hope someone didn't recommend that you move here to alleviate sinus problems

Thanks for the responses. I will not approve of any more surgeries.
I will get her some olive leaf extracts to try

You didn't say what type of sinus issues she was having, but:

I had issues with a lot of gunk in my sinus(and headaches), turned out I have a sensitivity to dairy; cut dairy out of my diet and it went away. I'd even had a rattle in my chest once or twice the docs thought might be pneumonia. Note this never turned up on an allergy screening, and all symptoms have gone -and stayed- away with no dairy.

A friend of mine always had some sort of sniffle/cough/sinus thing going on. He figured out that if he washed his bedsheets weekly, that it went away. Turns out he was allergic to bed mites.

Hope those help out...

GG0rman.......try the Nettie pot or some other kind of sinus flush. I used to have constant sinus problems......this has helped more than anything.

When mine gets bad, I sniff a pinch of Cayenne pepper up each nostril, morning and night for a couple days (grind garlic powder with it sometimes).

Gets the gunk flowing.

Mix 1/2-3/4 tsp salt, 1/4tsp bicarb in a cup of warm water, and snort in the shower.

I have. That, plus polyp removal and widening of the sinus passages that had too much tissue.

I do a sinus rinse every night and sometimes twice a day when needed. I use the Nielmed squirt bottle and buy the packets. I use what is almost equal to distilled water (demineralized? deionized?).

I don't eat a lot of dairy or drink much alcohol (3-4 times a year maybe). Alcohol can affect the sinuses.

I recently heard of olive leaf extract about three weeks ago and have been using it at a double dose rate. Barlean's from Amazon as it is much cheaper. One thing it contains is quercetin which I thought I read somewhere reduces sinus tissue swelling. I have noticed this has happened since taking it. According to the literature, olive leaf delivers a MEGA dose of antioxidants.

I've also started taking Vitamin C.

Eating pro-biotic yogurt as someone else mentioned is good, too, if antibiotics have been taken recently.

If she is allergic to certain things, maybe she should have her blood tested to see exactly what and how much she is allergic to.

Hope this helps.

I had that surgery and it didn't help much with chronic sinus infections. Sinus flushes helped a lot. Mucinex helps also because it keeps everything flowing rather than stopping up, which sets the stage for infection. I think if she did both of these she would get some improvement.
