Simple test

I've recently switched back to Toyota Red anti-freeze/coolant in my Tundra. I had a Toyota dealer flush the Dex-Cool that was causing problems. The Red is a concentrate (not pre-mixed), so I assume that Toyota did the proper 50/50 mix with distilled water. Is there a simple, cheap test that I can do to check the coolant for proper mix? Like a Ph litmus test or something similar?

There are test strips that will tell you the approximate boiling/freezing point of your coolant, which of course is directly related to the mixture. You can buy those strips at any auto parts store.

One thing you can do is look at your owner's manual, or on the label of an OEM coolant bottle. There should be some kind of chart that indicates ratio vs. temperature range. You can compare that to what you read with the strips to get an approximation of the ratio.

You can also put some in a Dixie cup and pop it into the freezer.
