Where is navigation sim card located in 2016 Cmax hybrid?

There is a "No GPS" symbol on the navigation screen. Is that because navigation needs to be updated or because something else is broken?

We have a '14 Fusion and the "map" card goes in a slot in the center armrest. With no card, it says something like "No map card inserted". Your message - "No GPS" - sounds like something else is wrong, like the GPS receiver/module isn't working. I don't think they use a SIM card as they're not using cellular data (typically) to communicate.

the maps live on an SD card, in a slot in side the center console, next to the USB ports.

if the GPSM(the GPS receiver) is bad. it's located behind the instrument cluster

There is no SD card slot next to the 2 USB ports. I looked for one near the OBD port under the dash but not there either. The dealer said the nav update uses a mini SD card. Other's on this forum have said that as well. The email we got from ford mentioned a USB stick, not a SD card. This is a 2016 Cmax. When did they start using SD card for navigation on the Cmax?

A USB stick is typically used to update the core software, not the maps. These are normally two different things. Ford may have changed this in later years, i.e. the hardware has enough storage capacity to store the map data internally. I found an owners manual and yeah, there's no card slot where I mentioned.

Do you by chance have SYNC 3 ? Ford started rolling it out in 2016 models but some models didn't get it until 2017 (and later ?). If you do, SYNC 3 doesn't use SD cards.

I still suspect the error message is a hardware one, i.e. the GPS module or something related.

SD or microSD is different from SIM card, and neither one has anything to do with GPS.

SD/microSD is used for mass storage. SIM card is used for cellular communication.

I agree w/you about the GPS module. Any info about troubleshooting it, how to get to it and replace it?

This 2016 Cmax has Sync 3 Version 1.0 build 15139.

Think I will check out the GPS unit first. I understand that the old Navigation won't have all the current info, but I think it should display a map even if the info is incorrect. It displays roads near where we live, but if we travel more than a few miles it does not display roads further out.

I am running the Sync 3 update right now off my wifi. How long should that take? If all night I am worried the battery will run down.

The email from ford mentioned I could download the navigation using my wifi or buy it loaded on a USB stick delivered to our house. Probably will get the Navigation on a stick after the GPS is sorted out.

How much current can your battery tender deliver?

SD or microSD is different from SIM card, and neither one has anything to do with GPS.

On Sync 2 systems from Ford, the map for the GPS is stored on an SD card.

Right, so like I stated, it's used for mass storage (of the maps), but if his GPS is not responding, it's likely unrelated to the SD card. A GPS doesn't need a map to work, but a Nav system needs both GPS and a map to work.

Correct, just as I said in my two earlier posts. Based on the error message, I think it's the module, not the map card. The OP's title refers to a "SIM card" and I was clarifying the differences.

Just ran Sync 3 up for 24 hours. Still not finished but turned wifi off, so wifi would not run the battery down so my wife could drive to work in the morning. 24hrs! that's either a lot of data or their server is really slow! I can download a many GB operating system for my computer in several hours!

Radio is now changing channels instantly, both FM and Sirius.

I started navigation. No "no GPS" symbol as I started to the Post Office 5 miles away. The map recognized all the twists and turns in our long driveway. Displayed all the turns I made going to town and back. The "no GPS" symbol came on several miles on the way to town, but the map displayed correctly. Why is the symbol displaying if the map is showing where I am at?

What could "no GPS" indicate, bad hardware or area not covered by satellite.

I am wondering if the old navigation is configured to a specific set of satellites and the navigation upgrade is configured to a different set of satellites?

Will have my wife see if the navigation works all the way to work which it has not been doing.

Don't know what to think about the no GPS symbol. How is the GPS module connected? does it just plug into another board of with a connection to the wiring harness. Thinking there may be a loose connection.

Update. As of this evening my wife reported that the navigation knew where it was all the 30 miles to work and back. I have run Sync 3 update for 24 hours yesterday. Will run it again next Friday. Have not yet upgraded the navigation software yet. Seems like the old navigation should display even if it is missing new roads, etc. Like if you drive 300 miles up I 35 it should display I 35 correctly. It may not display the hiccups on it. That road is not going anywhere else. It's not going to be placed 5 miles to the side.

The radio function seems OK to me but she reports some wonkiness, but it is still better than before I ran Sync 3 updates.

mostly, poor GPS reception. system is supposed to work with like 6 or 7 satellite signals, "No GPS" can display with fewer signals.

are you in a heavily forested area?(Trees blocking reception), the Tx "Hill Country"? I know there are some weird Geomagnetic anomalies around some of those granite domes that can mess with electronics...
