Silly Question--does a clear coat need waxing?

Well, I'm learning....

The Nu Finish is a polish. I thought I was supposed to polish and then wax????

You are correct providing you are using a true polish.
Nu-Finish is a chemical paint cleaner/sealant and was among the very first. Like many products (Duragloss comes to mind)it is not labeled correctly but with wording that will sell it to the masses. On its own it offers strong protection for the paint. You can wax on top of it if you wish but typical waxes last a few days to a few weeks at best. The exception is the Collinite line of waxes. If you want the finish to look a little nicer after the Nu-Finish and have a minimum of six months durability protection use Collinite Insulator wax. It can be found at many online vendors. It isn't necessary to top new finish with another product (except more Nu-Finish) but that's the one to use if you want to.

Duragloss #105 is another light cleaner/sealant but is labeled a polish. Their #501 product is an extreme paint cleaner with sealant but is also labeled a polish. It would be very similar to Nu-Finish in what it does. Meguiar's Tech Wax contains no wax, it is a synthetic sealant. It takes some digging to find out what some products actually are compared to their labels. The list goes on......

Thanks very much....I'm all about not waxing if I don't have to. I'll look into the products you mentioned.

Thanks also for serving our country

Nothing wrong with Nu-Finish. There are better products to be had for sure but if you don't enjoy "waxing" then use what you have. Just remember to use car wash when you do wash it along with a mitt not a sponge.

Thank you for that, I did so proudly. Lived in Bama for ten years and I still miss it, great place and great folks.
