Sig 229 owners???

I don't have any particular allegiance to any one brand of firearm. But I have personally never had or witnessed any problems with Glock. Then again, I don't experiment much with ammo either. I shot what I was issued. Blazer FMJ's and Speer Gold Dot.

Same with any firearms I have ever owned. I usually buy Blazer FMJ's for target practice, and have a seperate personal defense round, which I test before leaving in the weapon.

I have had multiple malfunctions with my Glock 19. I've had stove-pipes, failure to feed, even failure to fire. Horrible!!! Now, before your blood pressure shoots up, let me say that ALL of the malfunctions were with RELOADS. I have never had a single malfunction with any reputable name brand 9mm ammo.

All of the problems I experienced were related to sub-par ammo, not related to Glock, IMO.

FWIW, I wanted to send off my P229 to a Sig specific gunsmith to have a custom package installed and part of the service was polishing the feedramp (extra 50 bucks or so for this part) to enable a higher probability of reliable hollow point feeding.

To make a long story short, all 3 custom gun shops told me that the P229 does not need any feed ramp polishing and digests hollow points flawlessly.

If three well known custom gun shops wouldn't take my 50 bucks to perform this service on the P229, that says a lot about its reliability. It also was adopted by the US Coast Guard (DHS) after a 3 million round torture test and battery of grueling tests. I just wish it fit my hand and was as comfortable to shoot as the M&P is. I need longer fingers!

Sig has gone off the deep end a bit by going in too many directions and letting QA suffer on some models. That being said, I would trust my life to a P220, P226, and a P229.

I like the P226 too, but I have a deal available on the 229, none on the 226...

To branch out on this thread, anyone have the glock 34 or 35 "tactical/practical" supposedly more accurate glock pistols?

Thanks,

JMH

The 226 is a solid choice. As most know, the 226 was the only pistol next to the Beretta that survived the military trials to replace the 1911 back in the 80's. And the Navy SEALs have been carrying it for years.

Ive seen replacement barrels that allow shooting with lead. I dont think id be going that route regardless.

Thanks!

9mm Glocks are probably the toughest 9mm handgun ever made.

PS: Glock to this day STILL has unsupported chambers.
FWIW, My late model Glock 31, 357 Sig has a Fully supported chamber. Not sure if it was just this model or other newer Glock models got the mod also.

More than a few brands and models of semi autos pistols out there do not have FULLY supported chambers. So this is something you may want to check before your next new pistol if it is not what you want.

As far as Sig 229s, I bought a full stainless 229 Sport in a 357 Sig in the 90s. Been very happy with this gun it is extremely accurate.

JHZR2 you may also want to look at HK pistols. Never met one I did not like.

Well, I got the 19 and 229, as well as a ruger single six... which I LOVE. Its .22LR/.22MAG convertible, with a 5 1/2" barrel

I might want to get wood grips... what do you think, would it make it look even better?:

Particularly the G19. It's the .40 stuff from Glock that I would stay away from.

The department I work for went to 229s about 10 years ago. We keep about 60 guns in service and malfunctions and parts breakage have been very minimal. I like the gun a lot but have a personal preference for the 226.

Glocks are great guns IMHO but the grip angle made it difficult for me to go back and forth from it to guns with the more common grip angle. Two big pluses for the Glock are how few parts they have and every trigger pull being the same. If you opt for the Glock get night sights the cheap plastic sighs they come with otherwise are junk.

The Glock and SIG are two very different guns. Both guns do what they do well. The SIG is much more refined and the Glock is more utilitarian.

I agree with you that the Glock sites are junk. Wore the front sight off my Model 23.

Forgot about that....

I have wood grips on my single six and think it looks better. rosewood looks nice.

you got a vaquero model, that is a neat setup. mine has target sites.

I've got Hogues on my Single six. While I have the woods in a box, I really like the rubber grips.

Did the same for my Blackhawks so all of the single actions have the same size grip.
