side gapping spark plugs

I can't help but think that if this is such a great idea, why aren't all spark plugs manufactured that way to begin with?

The only thing I do to modify plugs is to bevel the outer edges of the curved electrode.

"Side gapping" a plug won't offer any benefits, much like hyper expensive plugs offer no benefits beyond extended plug life (despite all the power and mileage they promise).

About all you will accomplish is making the electrode fire off centre, which may contribute to a hot spot on the electrode which will wear it out unevenly and possibly quicker.

Firing on centre causes the electrical arc to fire on the centre of the electrode, where there is more area for heat dissipation. Also with more area it means the plug gap will be less effected by wear. There's more metal to have to slowly blow away with an arc before the gap starts to wear away.

Fine wire sparks do smooth idle, prevent carbon buildup in cylinders and offer a tad better fuel mileage.. PLUS very long life. Lot of the Dodge Hemi owners have used them at my suggestion on the Dodge truck forumns and noticed all of the above7 as I did. Many plug manufacturers have them. Some on Amazon.com at good prices plus Autolite has a rebate on them as well. They come factory in some vehicles these days. http://www.ramaircraft.com/Maintenance-Tips/Spark Plugs-Fine-Wire-vs-Massive.htm
