sick of my flipflops wearing out...

Brilliant!
Perhaps there lives within you a captive shoemaker yearning to break free?

I haven't seen any of those since I was "In Country" many years ago:

Ho Chi Minh sandals

A pair of 'Ho Chi Minh' sandals made from recycled rubber. The soles of the sandals are made from discarded tyres and the top straps are made from inner tubes.

Rubber tyre sandals were used extensively by Viet Cong forces during the Vietnam War. They were inexpensive to make and proved a practical alternative to boots in the humid climate of Vietnam.

Same here.

Only nasty when people have toenail fungus and their nails are brown from not taking care of problem.

^^^^ Also wearing sandals keep you from getting toenail fungus in the first place or stinky feet because your feet can dry out and get some air.

I've got a pair of croc flip flops I like.

We could buy tire flip flops in the village.

Saw those on many deceased VC.

I wear sandals almost year round in Texas also.

There is a brand called Okibashi that makes a good sandal that is comfortable. Apparantly they are all made in the US.

Do not like the thong style flip flop, but the sandal is very comfortable.

I tried Crocs and the soles wear out very fast on them, but they are comfortable (but very ugly)

I don't do sandals. Poor circulation means cold piggies. Also I'm just too white to risk it. I've burned the top of my feet a couple of times, and boy is that annoying.

While I appreciate the ingenuity of your flip flops, I must state I'm not interested in where this is going!

That's completely incorrect. The openness of sandals in public exposes your feet and nails bacteria, fungus, feces and other materials that are in public areas. They also accentuate heel-strike impact because of the poor padding, negatively alter your bio-mechanics when you walk, negatively affect your posture, cause the wearer to take shorter steps, and lead to repetitive stress on the ankle and foot.

There's a good reason why people who understand what happens with the foot while walking or running don't wear flip flops or sandals.

Given the above, I'm surprised that the human species survived long enough to INVENT shoes.

It must have been touch and go there for a few tens of millenia...
