Should I "Tune" a new Jetta SE

Absolutely!

VW turbo engines respond very favorably to tuning. A proper 93 octane tune, with the appropriate intake and exhaust de-restrictions, will make that thing run like God intended.

Things are different in the VW world, because VAG has been selling turbo engines for a long time now, and knows that people tend to tune the [censored] out of their cars, so VAG has gone to great lengths to ensure they can detect when the ECU was tampered with.

With that said, I don't agree that as a result of detection "most of your warranty will be voided." VAG still has to prove that the tune resulted in a failure of a given part. Alas, they can certainly make it very inconvenient for the owner to get their car fixed in a timely manner, and at the end of the day, it may get down to who has a better lawyer. That is why I am generally against any sort of tuning during warranty period.

I hope they can make some use of that now for any proceedings.
