He said that often AA has to meet certain purchasing requirements for some inventory to keep their pricing consistent for all the stores. That being said it could also be a strategic purchase on AA's part if XOM cut down on the purchasing requirements. Maybe they purchased their regular volume, but got a bigger discount. I should see if I can get a hold of him to see if he could maybe confirm the reason behind the M1 sale.
I wonder whether a local store manager would know for sure why there was a company-wide sale or whether Mobil was giving them a discount on product during the sale.
When I go to Walmart and see a big stand-alone display of Castrol Edge in a prime location, my suspicion is that Castrol is giving some concessions to Walmart for that kind of exposure. It is just part of the retail business.
