Off Topic.
You pay sale tax on battery and core, when you return the core to get you deposit back they don't refund sale tax.
If you bring old battery and buy new one you don't pay deposit for core so you don't pay tax.
Not much, but the state of California tries to get every penny from you pocket if possible.
Well 2 things were sold, so CA should get tax on the 2nd sale, even though the 2nd sale is a "replacement" .
If you want to get riled up, you should consider that when you sell a used car, it gets taxed again, so the same car sold 6 times nets CA 6sales tax transactions, versus a single owner netting them only 1 sales tax; even though there was only 1 car manufactured and on the road for the same period of time.
Then again, if you try to take Sears up on their warranty, they'll charge you $15 for battery testing installation random stuff. so there's that...
End of story, I suppose, choose your battles.
