Should I carry proof...

I apologize for posting misleading info. This is a delicate topic and I was irresponsible.

Authorities asked for papers when someone did not posses a valid Texas drivers license, and another person in Waco after a hit and run accident.

Best to keep the green card safe. Carry the Welcome letter.

in kansas if you have a drivers license ,you also have to have insurance. even if you dont have a car. i have said this before but i will say it again. in kansas the law makers, law enforcement, government offices, bureaucrats, are geared, for one thing ONLY, to do making money for the state. and if your insurance lapses they take you license away, AND fine you $600. i wish i could move, but my mom is old and i need to be close to her.

Morris, how do they know you have insurance? I mean you show proof and DMV to gey your tags, but if you cancel it later how would they know? Or am I missing something...

Why is there a need for a paper passport anymore? All of the information which you carry on you is already there in the cloud somewhere and accessible to all the LEO who need it.

Paper IDs are relics of the past and will (should?) eventually go away.

Eventually they will want to put a micro-chip under your skin and ID you whereever you go...

In my state, your insurance company immediately notifies the DMV when you cancel a policy.

Not in Arizona, that's what I have problem with.

Because other countries are not on the same electronic system as we do, so unless you are going only to Canada and Mexico, you will likely still need a paper passport.

MetalSlug:

Just out of curiosity why are you so worried about revealing the country where you are from. It would be impossible for anyone to determine who you are most likely.

I'll take a wild guess and say it is probably from Mexico or Central America.

I'm now more curious about this.

Also how long does your green card allow you to remain here? When must you leave the US?

to:Bluestream i have a card from the ins co. that proves i have car ins. it has a start date and a expire date. plus the state will not renew tags without it. but i dont think i own the truck i use. cause every fall they tell me how much i have to pay to take care of there truck for them. think you own something? just stop paying the taxes on it and see how long it takes them to take it from you.

Nope. It has to be renewed every ten years ($$$), once you get your permanent green card. Original conditional card is good only for 2 years or so (depending on the immigration type/category), and after that one has to do the interview/paperwork/pay fees all over again, medical exam is not required second time around.

Current Federal law states that both non-immigrant aliens and permanent residence carry a proof of their status in the US at all times. They play by different rules that either natural-born or naturalized citizens.

AZ law has the same requirement.

Usually you get tossed out after staying in jail for the guilty verdict.

I don't think this is correct.

I moved to Kansas not too long ago. I got my KS driver's license only about 6 months ago. I didn't have to show any proof of insurance to get a driver's license.

The KS Department of Revenue also doesn't say that proof of insurance is necessary.

But, I DID have to show proof of insurance when I registered my vehicles.

If you need an SR22 due to a previous "oopsie" you need insurance always if you want to keep your license.

I think in Arizona you have to prove that you are a citizen when the cops stop you. All they need to stop you is to determine if you look too much "immigranty", i.e. darker skin.

On this topic my state has these odd stops a few years back on RT93S in middle of NH. The border patrol sets up quick stops. I get waved right through or they just look at me. The funny part is if they ever saw my name and were previous military especially they would at least ask.

As a friend described me to another, I look American as apple pie though.

What is an American look ? White skin and blond hair ?

What about Native American (Indians) ? How about Black and Yellow skins ? They are not American ?

Yes, they (the insurance companies) are required BY LAW to instantly notify the DMV (that is how they "know").

In fact, in some of the towns around here where the LEOs have NOTHING better to do (too many of them, too little crime), they will randomly scan license plates into their laptops, and pull you over for no insurance (or for the cancelled due to lack of insurance, albeit fully paid, registration).

Nice racket/collusion between the state and ins. co.s, and if a cop stops you without insurance (EVEN IF you've done NOTHING ELSE WRONG) he can have your car impounded and towed on the spot, at YOUR expense!!

Of course, on top of this, we pay the absolute HIGHEST car insurance rates IN THE NATION, to the point where all of you "out there in the middle's" eyes would pop out of your skull if you had to fork over these criminal rates in order to drive.
