I just found Mobil 1 0w40 for 1.00 on clearance. I would use this in my Raider with a 2.6L carb engine. I have been told this oil is thicker than necessary for my engine but a 1.00 is pretty cheap. Should I do it, or would it be a waste?

Sure, it might be overkill. The price certainly isn't. You're not easily going to find a name brand, conventional SN/GF-5, for instance, at $1 a quart.
