Shot it right off

I shot the front sight off my Colt 45. I thinking about replacing the sights with something that is easyer to see in reduced light. Any suggestions?

When you say "Colt 45", do you mean the single action revolver chambered in .45 Long Colt, or do you mean a semi automatic handgun chambered in .45 ACP?... AKA a 1911?

If you mean the latter, look into a set of Trijicon night sights.

It's a 1911. The slide with the front sight cycles every time you shoot, shacking the sight. I came off and I never found it.

I usually get blasted when I post here but I'll give my .02 on the Trijicon. If you can, get em. I have a set on the service weapon (Glock 22 in .40) I purchased right before I left the Patrol. Excellent low light visibility. If you can find a sight with a "O[]O" (where [] is a square or triangle), target acquisition is a little easier than a "OOO" set up.

There are gunsmiths (Like Novak's) to whom you can send your slide and they will mill new front and rear dovetails and install a nice new set of sights. I actually prefer Richard Heinies sights, or the Yost-Bonitz rear.

If you want to keep the tenon-mount style front sight, a local 'smith should have the tool to swage in a new one for you. You'll have to guess/calculate the height of the lost front post.

Using a green front dot and yellow rear dots also helps.

I love Novak's with Trijicon sights on 'em. Agree with both Wantin's & Chevro's advice.

I usually shot varments at night,
just point and shoot, when the dirt flies adjust
I can usually get a chicken killing racoon in less then 3 shoots

tried them mini shotshells in my 357, they just #@$%! a coon off at anything more then 10 yards

Prefer roast chicken very much over roast raccoon -- I think...

I have had several sets of Trijicon sights and was very pleased with them.

I now also have a pistol with the Truglow Fiberoptic sights.

The advantage of these is that in addition to the tritium vial they also have a fiberoptic tube that gathers light in daylight giving you a good sight picture both day and night.
