Ok I use P4 ultra 5w30 in my Cruze. I was working an hour from home at an Audi Dealership, averaging about 900 miles a week give or take. I was getting about 12-15,000 miles between changing oil with a filter change in the middle with great TBN and wear numbers. Now I work 3 minutes from home so the car isn't even at Operating temp by the time I get to or from work. This is the 1.4 turbo. My question is with me short tripping now, what should I knock my interval down to at first?

Perfect time to bike or walk to work!

My wifes sienna is a short tripper as well (more like 15 minutes twice a day and then 5 minutes twice a day with plenty of time between all of them)

I run 5k OCI with Pennzoil 0w20

Do you go on longer drives on weekends that would help burn off moisture and fuel? If so, that would likely help with a longer OCI.

All in all, how many miles will you be putting on the car in a year under these new operating conditions? You could probably do an annual OCI if you don't put on too many miles.

So what's your new gig, if you don't mind me asking?

Congratulations on shortening your commute. That's a huge thing. Knock down your OCI to 3000 if you're doing really short trips.

The OLM will see tht the car is being short tripped and count down the OLM quicker. So I'd say follow the OLM with a dexos oil and you should be good.

Agreed. Now that I live only 4 km from work, I walk/bike as much as possible. Short trips like that are really bad for the car.

LOL at some of the comments in this thread.

+1

Get it hot and run it on the highway and you'll have a happy car.

I'm of the opinion that your car is there to serve you not the other way around. No need to abandon the car to bike or walk to work. No reason to cater your driving to suit the car with a longer trip to work or weekly highway excursions to heat it up.

Change the oil based on the OLM and enjoy the extra time not spent in the car.
