Shopping for a new used car.

Does anyone else get far more excited than they really should when you get to go test drive and inspect a potential buy?

Been looking to replace our "Died An Unfortunate Death" 1996 Outback with a newer Subaru. Already had to pass on a 2004 Outback because the dealer wouldn't take a penny less than $13,350 out the door...which was more than a grand higher than what I had in hand.

Tomorrow I'm looking at a 2002 Outback with 65k miles. Yes, this is still in the head gaskets of doom era and no that does not make me happy. But they have it listed at $10.5 and might come down a little if I voice enough concern about future repair bills due to the flawed 2000-2002 Subaru head gaskets.

I am looking forward to this far too much.

I bought my 2008 Impreza as a rental vehicle with 7000 miles on it, for 18,500. The Impreza comes from Japan, and is a BEAUTIFUL vehicle. The 2008 engine has fantastic torque at low end rev. We also have a 1999 Legacy with a 2.2. We love our Subaru's, but get the 2008 Impreza - suspension redesign, and use of tensile steel, means you will love it.

Impreza is a good car, but my wife and I really want another Outback. And our budget is really set in stone right now. And by set in stone I mean more than we should be spending

If you buy the '02, just keep the extra cash around for the eventual headgasket repair. At least it won't surprise you.

Still driving my 93 Loyale, 135k miles and runs like new. I've got an '86 GL I'm fixing up with an ej22 swapped in out of a '96 imprezza...the wagon moves pretty good with the extra power!

10k for a known flawed vehicle??? I'd pass and keep looking.
