No problem, just out of interest, the Holden Commodore would be equivalent to the Chevrolet SS. The Holden Statesman Caprice, just call the Caprice now days, is a slightly larger car and equivalent to the Chevy Caprice. Both are rear wheel drive.
The Caprice is a luxury car here, for the mature market with lots of money. The sort of people who would consider a large MB, or 7 series BMW, or a Jag in the old days. Mostly ignored by the performance and younger crowd, even though they have made some performance HSV versions.
Anyway, when I saw a picture of the Caprice done up as a police patrol car, my jaw dropped and I wanted one. They look great in combat fatigues rather than a business suit.
What engine do they use there ? The 6.2L LS3 V8 ?
I hear the Chevy Caprice is very popular in Saudi Arabia too, they handle the heat and sand well from what I hear.
We would run a Dexos 5W30 in a Caprice.
Affordable fullsize cars that don't cost a fortune have always been popular in the Middle East, as was the Caprice - be it the American version that was sold throughout the 1970s up until the mid 1990s or the Australian version that was sold from 2000 onwards. It was offered in 3.6L V6 and 6.0L V8 variants, and sold pretty well. Only real problem they had were with water pumps, which were fixed later. The earlier variants had a few electrical glitches, but the '06+ was solid.
I haven't seen new ones for a while though, and they are no longer on the showroom floor. SUV sales shot up after Ford discontinued the Crown Victoria, which was the most popular fullsize up until production ended in 2011 for MY2012, and right now everyone's flocking after the Tahoe/Yukon instead for a V8 with RWD/AWD and a full frame.
