I know there are many topics about this, but this is another question.

I was wondering will any synthetic motor oil like Shell 0W30 or 5W30 and lets say some Lique Moly oil additive have any improvement in a 2.0 - 5-cylinder diesel engine?

I want reduce some noice, tear/wear and some minimum fuel consumption.

Other question; an oil additive like this, will it make the oil thicker?

Eh not really. For the price of an LM additive which i assume is that ceramic one I'd spend extra on a better oil with a better base stock. And i don't know of any LM additive that thickens but if it did then you might as well get a 40 weight oil. But what engine is this exactly and what is listed in the book. If it lists some c3 5w-30 then i'd use a 0w-40 diesel oil. The loower ash is for IF it burns so it doesn't damage the emission system as quickly as a higher saps formulation. But if it doesn't burn then it simply doesn't matter. I'd probably use a 0w-40 diesel oil. The mpg hit is basically negligible since 0w-40 grade diesels are around 13cst but 30 grade ones are around 12. Basically no difference there. Don't let the difference between 30 and 40 fool you.
