Shell Rotella T 10W30

Since Honda specs this weight, my question is how much different is the 10w30 Rotella T vs the 15w40 Rotella T. I realize it isnt JASO-MA certfied but is the formula the same just different viscosity. I used the T5 in a Nomad I had and had some slippage, so I am interested in the regular Rotella.

The biggest difference is the 5w40 is a Group III synthetic (XHVI) and the 10w30 is a syn blend. The 15w40 is made from Group II.

I think he means Rotella T 10w30 conventional, not T5 semi-synthetic.

You're correct on all counts. The formulation for Shell Rotella T Triple Protection Oil SAE 10w30 is similar to that of the SAE 15w40 oil. We have not submitted the SAE 10w30 oil for testing against JASO MA or MA2.

We would expect the frictional properties for the two oils to be similar, but cannot guarantee that the SAE 10w30 oil will pass the JASO requirements.

That Rotella T (or T5) 10w30 is good stout stuff. If my Goldwing was spec'd for 10w30 (but it is 2 years too old), I'd run the T5 in a heartbeat.

But that is neither here nor there.

The OP is asking about T 15w40 vs T 10w30. Both of them are mineral oils.
