The two cheapest oils in my area, wallyworld aside are Shell formula and Chevron Supreme. Which is a better oil? Both cost about $2.

I don't know which is better, but I've had very good results with CS. It makes my motor run very smoothly; especially in the high RPM range. I mix 60% 10W-30 with 40% 10W-40 to achieve the exact viscosity I want.

Here's my advice: Whichever oil CSK has on sale that week for $.59, go with that. If you're like me, after about six months you'll find yourself with six cases of each (Shell and Chevron), since CSK alternates their sales/rebates fairly regularly.

Really, I don't think it matters which one you buy...they're both the "best bang" for your buck (er, less than a buck) you can find in oil right now.

These oils are designed to the same spec. There is not supposed to be much difference between them. Therefore the best oil might just be the cheapest one.

I'm in CA and keep a case or two of whichever Kragen sells on sale. I even have a case of Castrol GTX from Jan /Feb sales since they never had a whole case of Shell when I'd stop in. If I had to pay $2 I'd be buying tropartic or Havoline at walmart

I checked that pdf, this is based on 10w30, would the formula Shell be better in cold starting temps in 5w30 (that's what I want now since it's summer).
It's on sale up here in for $2.79L. I just finished my ARx and it's time to get it out (just over 3000Km's).
And, based on that test, Shell is better than Castrol? Man, I've got a case of 10w30 GTX in the garage, what do I do with it now?

For beyond 3K service, I would pick Chevron - because it's sister (Havoline) holds up well for extended service. Otherwise, flip a coin!
