yeah i admit i have done that in the past as well.usually,i just remove it,put in a parts cleaner,inspect how worn it is,re-pack with grease,then install new boots.although,this one in question sounds pretty worn.

I made her aware of the shafts and said she needs to get some as soon as possible,and I'll do them for her. Shes gotta do them in the next 6months. It'll be inspection time by then, and they wont pass like that. I wish I had the money to help her out right now, but I'm struggling to pull myself outta debt so my gf and I can buy a house.

hey Mr. Foulk, with a 3.5L sump, I'd try and use the bigger filter for that 2.0L. AFAIK, the one spec'd for it, the one you got, is the same size filter that used on the 1.3/1.6L engines. You can use a Honda filter (Fram 3593) or just the filter for the other Mazdas ie. 2.5L V6. That should let another .5L fit in there which shouldnt beat the oil up so badly, esp when she goes over her OCI.
