Has anyone experienced a service airbag warning when the vehicle is cold? I've encountered this issue over the last few weeks in cold Michigan weather. The warning stays on for about 10 minutes or until the vehicle warms up. I've checked the connections under the seat, and they seem fine. I'm wondering if it's a voltage problem with the battery. It's a 2018 Overland with the original battery. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

My 1998 maxima known issue.

Doesn’t cause a fail for safety inspection, and better to have it disabled when not working properly. Problem was faulty module too expensive for me at the time.

Do you have a volt meter or a battery charger?
Inspect terminal cleanliness as part of your general inspection.
I do have a battery charger, yes. I was debating changing out the battery, due to age. It’s beyond the normal life. I drove it today and with temperatures around 20 degrees the air bag warning was of course on. But after a quick stop and 10 minutes of driving it turned off. It’s baffling how it’s only on at cold startups throughout the day. Not many mechanics want to work on airbag systems due to liability. Therefore it’s likely a dealer job. Obviously throwing unnecessary money at it is probably not smart, but running on a 7 year old battery is likely a failure waiting to happen. Just wondering if that’s something that would throw this error out.

Since this vehicle has two batteries I wonder if the auxiliary battery has finally crapped out. I found this comment on another Jeep forum

A possible related issue: The blend air door on the A/C & heater distribution housing has been malfunctioning for several months which causes it to try to open & close continuously after the ignition switch is off. That may have drained the aux battery someone suggested. Other indications are random lights and warning messages on the dashboard (e.g. "Air Bag Service" needed). I'm not sure why random messages are generated by failed aux batteries. I hope replacing it cures the problems. BTW: I live in a rural area and very seldom need to use the ESS (Start-Stop) feature as my drives are mostly in locations where it is not triggered.

Needless to say I’ll swap out both batteries and report back. It’s unlikely but worth a shot. My start and stop hasn’t worked in a long time.

What fault code is it throwing? That would point you in a direction.

There wasn’t a stored code when I had it checked last week. However, the service air bag warning had reset after driving it to the repair shop. It needs to be checked when first started. So I need to either leave it overnight or invest in a code scanner. But of course, one that also reads ABS and SRS codes.
