I have some Smitty's Super S semi-synthetic that I'd like to use up in 5-30. I was thinking of mixing it with either Mobil 1 0w40 or Rotella T6 0-40.

It's general assumed that one should that one should always run fully synthetic oil in Saab turbos, but I was thinking I'd run a lower OCI, like 5K miles.

Any concerns?

The issue with Saabs is not lubrication. It will be fine with most oils. It is the CAT right next to the oil pan which cokes the oil right at the oil pump pick-up screen. If it gets bad, it'll starve the engine and kill it.

Semi-syn is fine for Saabs that 1.) do not idle in traffic too much, 2.) do not have the aero shield under the driver side of the engine, 3.) have a known good at least semi clean oil pump pick-up.

It's not hard to drop the pan and check. If it looks good, new gasket and you are on your way. Your Smitty's Oil will be fine. If it's getting bad, clean the screen and button it up. You arr good to go.

The use of full synthetic was/is to minimize coking.

I think I'll give it a go. I just won't run it too long.
