This 2010 Crown Vic P7C was at a friend's body shop. There's no frame damage, so the entire body is being replaced with one out of a 2009 Grand Marquis, which is also white, although the vehicle will obviously be repainted.

I don't know any specifics about the collision, although it did make a shiver. In December 2007, my 2007 Grand Marquis was struck by a semi on the freeway, and the rear end was pushed in just past the C pillar. My family walked away from it, and that's all that matters though.

The owner owes money on the car through a 5 year loan. Insurance is covering the costs, and he's not paying for anything. With labor being cheap and access to quality used parts, it works out much cheaper than a replacement.

Or a Fit, Yaris, Smart Car....etc

Definitely. The body was basically torn off the frame, which is still intact, so all it needs is new mounts in the rear.

Even with the advantageous labor and parts, I'm surprised they didn't just do the rear clip (although I do see that the C pillar area would have to be worked too).

The whole cost of repairing this car is about $3,500 as opposed to $18,000 for a brand new one. This part of the world doesn't exactly have the best driving record, and accidents happen all over the place. So you do get a decent supply of relatively new parts.

Labor is definitely cheaper, and provided you have the "right" contacts at the yards, used parts are relatively cheap as well.

The point of impact was above the rear bumper, and therefore, was above the frame.

Notice how the rear bumper cover was "pulled" up and in, towards the opening of the trunk, and that the tail lights are demolished.

Same thing happened to me in 2009. I was hit in the rear like that. The vehicle that hit me was a slightly lifted Jeep, and hit over my rear bumper, and make contact at the level of the tail lights.

Not really. The point of impact was above the rear bumper, and therefore, was above the frame.

Not really as in you aren't surprised there is no frame damage due to the point of impact or not really it isn't a strong car because of the point of impact being high and not causing frame damage?

So its actually cheaper to take a newer car, rip the body off, rip the body off the other car, reinstall the newer body on the old frame... Than it is to just take the newer car and use it?

I assume the replacement body doesn't have anything really wrong with it...

I wondered how you could talk so casually in other threads about complete re-paints. I guess this puts it in perspective.

There is a guy at CVN that runs a taxi place in the Atlanta area. Him and his shop have essentially built panthers; taking a good frame and dropping a good body on from a different car..

Childish game? I was just trying to figure out what you were trying to say. Have Ben and I you traumatized you or something?
