What we should do.

OPEC sells oil for $136.00 a barrel.
OPEC nations buy U.S. grain at $7.00 a bushel.

Solution:
Sell grain for $136.00 a bushel.
Can't buy it?
That's a shame!
Eat your oil!
Ought to go well with a nice thick grilled fillet of camel !!!

Right on the money. No pun intended. I am tired of us having to be some massive charity while we get raped by the people we help. Imagine if we cut off imports from China just for 1 week. That country would fall on its face. Of course, anymore, ours would too. Without getting political, I think it's only going to get worse as we head closer and closer to a nation of spineless push-overs.

Well nothing to do with this thread or actually trading enough grain for the oil we use, but indeed the USA is a massive charity for many nations of the world. Look it up. Now you may say something flippant like we have strings attached, but not really and if we do, the hooks aren't working all that great.

Pablo, those two links are about both public and private charity, the latter part of which is largely R based, and internal to the country anyway.

Nice to see Luxembourg is pulling their weight! Thus the danger of using 'per capita' measures.

Charity comes in many forms. As imperfect as our efforts have been I challenge anyone to to describe to me what the global state of representative government and individual freedoms would be right now without the efforts of the United States over the past 60 years.

People act like the evils of totalitarianism, genocide and other extremism are some sort of anomoly; sadly they seem to be the natural state of man unless there is a strong hand to keep them at bay. I fear that in doing this for so long the US may have mortgaged its future. Carrier battle groups, B-52 wings and armored divisions are not cheap and offer a very poor return on investment in most cases.

It doesn't take a political science PhD to see that the relative influence of the US is waning in favor of a unified Europe and China. It will be interesting to see how wisely (or not) they use this power. Frankly I would enjoy the opportunity to sit on the sidelines and critique the players on the field for a change.
