Seems that FRAM shifted all their oil filter lines.

Is that new Ultra cartridge media the same as that of new spin-on Ultras? The Ultra 10358 cartridge I bought a few weeks ago has the old wire-backed synthetic media.
Looks like it could be, no wire backing, has the appearance of cellulose through the centre tube, while the pink media one is wire backed just like we expect with the OG Ultra.

Slightly unrelated-if you have Meijer near you, they're clearancing the XG filters, and I saw a fair number of wire-backed pink media cartridge filters at the one I checked.

I am not sure but a cut open by a customer is in order to see if they went cheaper on the caned filters as well.

Nothing near me store wise but their online website did not show any available in the XG9972

Well I see it is change and double the price. Not happy for Wix is cheaper at $11 for their filter elements. This is new at Walmart which I was alerted. Frustrating as well!

... I think FB has been slowly outsourcing a lot of its' filter manufacturing operations out of the USA/Canada region, with hard to quantify results. Condolidation is not helping here.
The FS9972 Titanium illustrated in this thread appears to be identical in construction to the US-made Ultra 10358 (smaller) cartridge I bought and installed a few weeks ago. It was $11 at Walmart.
However, Fram's source for the Tough Guard 10358 has apparently changed from China to Argentina, with different media and end caps.

Here is an oil filter I got from Amazon. I am not sure what is going on but I like this one over the other ones I returned. So I am not sure what Fram is doing. Anyone know?

Just to add I paid $10.98 but buying two made it $21.47 with the savings discount. Just passing on the info. should one want the good oil filters. Could these be the Endurance filter rebadged?

They're on clearance-there's NO Ultra/XG filters on the website. They're in the stores, though!

Interesting!

I was in Meijer (but not shopping for Pennzoil Platinum 😎) and I noticed they had two XG4967s on the shelf for $6 per filter. No other Fram oil filter was on sale, just that specific one.

Of course, I had to break the tape seal to check that they were actually the XG4967. They were. And no issues with them. Made in USA.

Wire-backed? I don’t know. I bought them.

Side by side comparison. Don't buy from Walmart for you will get the middle one, the one on right I ordered a bunch more from Amazon and they are all a white media with wire backing. Open the filter box from the bottom to make sure you got the good filter. Hope this helps people.

Looks to be pretty big date code differences, so Fram may be changing production on that specific model over time.

Is there a way to find out the dates on them?

Look at the end caps on a cartridge filter for the date code.
