Dad's garage is the preferred location for my daughter's oil changes but she is away on an internship and will not be able to make it home for the next oil change. Any thoughts where she should go? She is in the Amherst, MA area. Vehicle is a 2007 Civic that has been getting PYB 5W20 and Purolator Classic/PureOne filters since 50K. Closing in on 100K now. Would prefer to stay with PYB. Thanks in advance.

This is my recommendation. A good shop will give the car the "once over" when it is in for an oil change. And not the kind of "once over" designed to fleece you, but to make sure you don't incur higher expenses later! robert

See if she can get a person she trusts to recommend a place. I find a recommendation is always best in a case like this.

My shop is 30 minutes from Amherst. Our bulk oil is Pennwood by Dennison Lubricants, but I can get any oil/filter combination you'd like. Every vehicle that comes in for an oil change gets a multi-point inspection. I too have a daughter in college, so I definitely understand. Send me a PM if you're interested and I'll give you my contact info. I'll check back later on today (when I take a break from floor tile work). Take care.

I was going to recommend an ind in Hadley....but this would be the way to go! Great area, grew up there.

+2 That's what I did when my daughter moved to NJ. There was a dealer 3 miles from her apartment who did oil changes on the weekends. Oil change/ tire rotation $49. They also topped all the other fluids and inspected the tires, brakes, battery, air filter etc.

I would have to recommend the closest Honda dealer, you will get a name brand conventional at least, maybe even Hondas Synthetic Blend, and a Honda filter. Say no to Walmart, say no to quick lube places.

Jiffy Lube uses PYB bulk, but I would be black-listed here if I recommended them. bop If she has the strength to say NO to their upselling, they might be an alternative.

A respected BITOG member who owns a shop 30 min away? You can't beat that! Some Walmarts are good, some dealers are good, some indy shops are good...but there are also incompetents and crooks in each category. How do you know, in an unfamiliar area? If she were my daughter, I'd be sending her to Zaedock's shop.

Thought they cheaped down and use formula shell instead.

+1.

Find a local reputable mechanic that will do the oil change for a good deal. Have her get an 5 quart jug and filter at Walmart and bring it with her. Or, better yet. Teach her how to do it herself.

As of a couple of years ago I believe they used Quaker State as their basic oil change, and Pennzoil products for the higher-end service. The previous owner of my car took it to Jiffy Lube a few times and they used Quaker State in it, per the receipts.
