Gf and I went to the mall today. We parked at Sears to enter the mall. Automotive was the first dept,so I checked out the oil selection. They literally had a TON of Syntec 5W50 SJ rated. Some of the labels on the front bottles were so faded they were white instead of orange, like the rest of them. They were ridiculously priced at $8.

I asked if they would ever be clearancing out their old motor oil to make room for new and the clerk says "no". He then said they have so much old Syntec because they`re the oldest synthetic oil company. I was like, huh????????

Their VWB was ancient,as well as their PYB. No wonder why Sears is going belly up,store by store haha!

yeah the prices aren't very low either to say the least. other than outdoor equipment and appliances, i don't see what anyone goes to Sears for..

I've tried to pick up SJ,SL oil for cheap at Autozone and stuff from the manager, they never budge on the price and would rather sell it to someone with a 2010 car that cant use it.

Did they actually ring it up or did you just go by the shelf price.

K-mart, (owned by Sears) clearanced Syntec 5w-50 at $2 a quart along with everything in gallon jugs a few months ago. There is an outside chance it may be on sale.

At the very least I'd talk to the manager. Of course the clerk is going to say no, they usually don't know anything and don't want to know either.

Why even carry motor oil at sears?? A waste of shelf space, and they apparently don't move much of it by these reports. The clerk had a good sense of humor about it though.

Sears is one of my favorite stores (clothes, tools, appliances) but I wouldn't think of buying motor oil there, that's what Napa, Autozone, etc are there for. I suppose it's because they also carry the lawnmowers; they should seriously reduce the selection and shelf space to a minimum.

Hmm,I`m gonna give that a try. Thanks!

Another idea: Buy the oil at Sears, return at your local K-mart and wait for them to put it back out on clearance.

BUT,would I have to tell Kmart to keep it on hold until it goes on clearance? Maybe put it on layaway?

A lot of people I know use Sears automotive for different things. The times I've stopped by the local one they were busy. I think a lot of people have mixed feelings on the random oil change places and Sears is a trusted name. For them to carry some stuff makes sense, but how much stock they carry should depend on how much they sell.

Autozone and the other few chains in my area similar to it only offer value through their sale prices. Everything from bulbs to funnels to oils are cheaper at Walmart on a daily basis.

Actually quite slowly if they've still got decade-old oil.

You'd think since they paid 2003 wholesale prices on the stuff they'd make a profit even selling it $5/qt. Oh well...

My first job in HS was at Kmart....now I won't ever go there because it is a ghost town with ultra high prices.

why would you pay that much for M-1-----or a quart of any oil on the shelf for that matter?
