Wow, Cooper is everywhere suddenly....

Cooper-Sears deal covers Guardsman, Response lines
Tire Business staff report

FINDLAY, Ohio (Sept. 3, 2009) — Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.’s new tire supply contract with Sears Holdings Corp. includes a new line exclusive to Sears, the Cooper Response Touring passenger line, as well as Sears’ Guardsman Plus line.

Cooper initially disclosed the contract—which is a renewal of a supply relationship after several years hiatus—in early August during a conference call with analysts.

The Guardsman Plus will be offered in 18 sizes, while the Cooper Response Touring comes in 16 sizes, and both offer sizes ranging from 13 to 16 inches.

Cooper did not disclose the size or value of the deal, but Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. research analyst Rod Lache estimated the contract to be worth about 1 million units annually.

The new tires will launch at Sears Auto Centers this fall. The company operates more than 850 Sears Auto Centers throughout the U.S.

“Over the years, Cooper and Sears have enjoyed a very successful business relationship, and we are excited about introducing our brand at Sears retail stores,” said Phil Caris, vice president of sales and marketing for Cooper’s North American Tire Division.

“This relationship is an important component of our strategic initiatives in providing top line growth through increasing Cooper brand presence and market share in the national retailer channel.”

I hate that they don't make a Guardsman Trailhandler or equivalent in SUV sizes anymore. My 96 Explorer with 186k is gonna need tires in a bit and I want to put the cheapest ones on I can find. Sears' Guardsmans in other sizes are the cheapest I've seen (at a brick and mortar).

Won't the $50 Goodyear Wrangler (P235-75R-15) at Wal*Mart fit it?

Still would rather have Sears over Wal Mart anyways...

I do have to say, I checked out That new Cooper (response), and it looks pretty good. Only 65 bucks a tire. 60k warranty..

It really reminds me of a mastercraft tire I saw....

I know people don't like to splurge on tires, but IMHO tires are one of the most important things to NOT skimp on. Bad/poor tires can take lives, including your own, and good tires can save lives.

Eh, I thinkin it depends on the driving too, and the conditions you are in.

Like you, I have a cavalier, which can give you a little le-way (sp?) in what tires you can get. As you get higher up size wise, then you want a really good tire, no matter what.

I made the wife's old stock Goodyear Conquests handle like a champ....

I've driven on whatever MI can throw at me, and been fine.

Since this current Cav doesn't see winter (much) or as much milage (being the 3dr car), I want a solid tire......If I did drive it rear around, I might consider TTs (like yours) for my Cav...

Though I must say I like the wife's Kelly Nav Golds, they take the roads around here very well....

Besides, I might put a wheel/tire package on it down the road ( must be an org thing

), so we will see.....

I won't buy "cheap" tires, though Value is important....
