Greetings BITOG forums,

I have a simple question about this board that I did not know where to post: How do I search this message board for posts about a specific viscosity?

I feel like a total newbie for asking such a simple question, but I have tried what few tricks I know. I am interested in finding all the recent threads about 0w-20 and 5w-20 motor oils, but searching for "0w-20" or "5w-20" gives me no results. A search for "German Castrol" gives me a multitude of hits, but searching for 0w30 gives no results. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Search terms less than 4 characters long seem to be ignored. Amsoil sponsors might want to investigate this, since their products use three letter codes.

Try a search for BMW, XD3, RLI, and see what you get.

Yes, the search function is broken. I tried searching for 5w30 and got:
UBB Error
There are no results for your query. Please try a broader range of search criteria.

Since most people type 5w30 rather than 5w30, most posts are not searcheable. It used to work, but the admins have probably been trying to conserve CPU load.

The search engine sees a - as a minus sign, and depending on mood sometimes it will ignore 5 character searches, being based on if you will get a zillion hits or not....of course don't try any more than 3 times on an even day or 4 times on an odd day because it will determine that you have gleaned too much information and lock you out. All this results in about zero info.

So - USE google to search Bitog!
