Scraped up bumper

First accident in my life. Scrapped the paint off my wife's bumper on her 2005 Legacy ironically picking it up from a body shop for some rework (rust) from prior rear collision damage.

There are no gouges, tears etc just black showing where paint was scrapped off.

My question is do they actually remove the entire bumper plastic skin and repaint or do it on the car? I imagine if removed it drives up the cost of job? I am hoping to get out for $300 or less but no idea.

no its rare for them to remove the bumper for something like that. just get a blend job, would be easy to do since the damage isnt on a flat panel. just tell them you want no overspray, so tape off good.

I can take the whole bumper skin off in about 30min..
I'd imagine a pro is much faster.. so It would probably depend on the person doing the work

They won't need to remove it. They'll just mask things off and respray, and blend it into the fender and hood.

I suspect you could get that done for $400. I'm sure that over the years the car has gotten its fair share of stone chips and such, so maybe consider dropping a touch extra to just get the whole bumper sprayed and freshened.

A good body shop will remove the bumper to prepare and paint the whole bumper, the cost will be no less than $300 and my guess is about $400-500 and a day.

They will need to remove the bumper and repair the damage area on the front and back-side. I would expect a repair like this to take about 7-8 labor hours and around $600 - at least that was my experience when I had one done on my Prius.

Actually this car was in a rear ending(hit/run/left imprint of plate in rear bumper) last year that pushed in into another car and bumper was repainted last year. I was literally on my home from the body shop doing some minor rework from last years incident when this occured

So I am out $400 - $500 it seems (I have $500 deductible).
