Taiwanese scooters are good and reliable, Kymco and Sym are internationally (as in everywhere but America) recognized as good brands and in the scooter community known to be better than the Japanese and Italian ones especially considering price. Daelim could be in that list but the Koreans can't seem to get their act together and market internaionally on a consistent and strong basis. It's the mainland chinese knockoffs that are bad. Tank is getting their name up their as far as chinese scooters go but as their quality improves so does their price, by improve I mean go up. Unfortunately their parts availability has only gone up from impossibly hard to pulling teeth hard, it can be done but not without a fight. Their warrantees are 30 days usually, Tank's is a 3 year warranty but you quickly find out it has more holes than swiss cheese, like all rubber parts not covered and labor is not covered, so if the engine blows a seal your SOL. I've worked on Chinese scooters and while the engine theoretically can go 30,000 miles or more I've never seen it happen since most break down much sooner because of shoddy parts, I've already seen the main rear suspension bolt break on two seperate occasions. That part is a vital part which can throw the rider over the front of the bike when it breaks and it should never break. My friend was lucky she wasn't thrown from her scooter when it happened on the freeway she was riding a CF-Moto clone of a Honda Helix. I've seen brake discs crumble into dust when slammed on because of the cheap steel developing cracks at every cross-drilling point just waiting to be catastrophically set off by an emergency. I have nothing against china but safety is important on bikes and the chinese don't realize that quality is a necessary part of safety. Anyone remember that German company testing the Chinese SUV? The car crunched up like a tin can and the steering column decapitated the driver, ouch. There's a lesson to be learned here somwhere, but the price; it's so tempting...

Hi,
I've just purchased a new Suzuki Burgman AN650K8 it will be "interesting". My sons live in Brisbane and both have new Sports bikes (GSX-R750 and CBR1000) and they collectively road tested a Demo model for me first

I collect it on Friday in Brisbane and I'll ride it the 750miles (1200kms) back here to where I live over the weekend

SYM and Piaggio scooters are well regarded here

50cc scooters rock! I just sold my 99 Zuma (Yamaha, Minarelli engine) with 1700 miles on it. Rock solid, marketed all over the world in various incantations. So the new Zuma is a good choice. Now if you want a REAL scooter, look no further than an Aprilia dealer. Italian made, marketed all over the world, and used (read that beat on) as daily transportation in European countries. The SR50 has a 50cc DI engine, tops out around 40 stock, but the aftermarket has embraced this little racer with all the usual hop up parts, intakes, exhaust, ECU maps. Uncorked, these little screamers will run 70-80, and do it all day long. They are in short supply, expect to pay close to or at sticker, but for more fun than you expect to have with your clothes on, it cannot be beat.
