Scientific Test - Synthetic vs. Conventional Take a look at the MB oil list 229.5 and Porsche approved oils, all the oils in those lists are synthetic. The OCI's are more than 10k miles and in some cases can be as long as 20k miles. To be approved, those oil must pass some tests and it's as scientific test as it can be.
