This is my second run of Schaeffer's Supreme Blend 5w30 and the second UOA of this oil in the wife's Explorer. I basically doubled the OCI from 4,119 miles to 8,214 miles. As you can see the wear was no worse for almost double the miles. That is a testament to the quality of this oil

. The oil was in use from Feb 20 to Sept 6 04, 6 and 1/2 months approximately. I added 12 oz of new oil at 4,400 miles. Didn't really need it it seems. Ford's dipsticks are designed by dipsticks

During these intervals the oil filter was a Motorcraft FL820S and it had a new Motorcraft air filter at around 15,000 miles and 30,000 miles.

The silicon is still high. I've checked over the fittings and tightness and all seems well. My best guess is that the air filter box is just a real poor fit/design and allows air leakage. Maybe I'll try duct tape to seal the air filter box.

Most Excellent

Schaeffer's is some kind of blend...not like others out there...

It's got antimony and other stuff that doesn't come out right? I wonder where they get their additive package from!

Congrats Again!

P.S. I don't think that this Si is so bad since you did do double duty!

Remember the 5W30 Schaeffer's starts out with 6-8 ppm silicon. Good anti-foam properties. Why don't the rest of the oil companies take lessons from them on this? JMO

Whimsey- If you subtract out the 6-8 ppm of Silicon that 59 Vetteman provided, you only have from 10-12 ppm of Silicon...not that much in these Ford 4.0L V-6's. I've been keeping track of all the Ford 4.0L V-6 posts here so I can see how they compare to my own (2003 Ford Ranger FX4 Level II), and the average ppm/1000 miles value is 2.5...this sample with 6 ppm of Silicon subtracted out to account for what's in a VOA of the oil your using yields 1.5 ppm/1000 miles...so I'd think your doing pretty good in this area.

Great report!!!! I would leave the intervals at 7500 miles or 6 months. Looks like great oil!

Daily Drives:
-2003 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner XtraCab, 2.7 Liter , Mobil 1 Synthetic SS 5w30.
ODO 10500Miles.
-1995 Toyota 4-Runner 3.0 V6, Mobil 1 Synthetic SS 10w30.
ODO 91900 Miles.

I think I'll try for a 10,000 mile OCI next. It's the wife's truck and what she doesn't know won't hurt ME

. Please guys, promise not to tell her that HER truck is my oil "test lab"

. I've been advised to try 10,000 miles with this oil. Of course I'll post the UOA

. I think I'll duct tape the aircleaner to try to limit the silicon that's not part of the oil make-up. Other than the silicon and the resulting Aluminum wear #'s the engine and oil held up great for the miles and type of driving. The driving is a mixture of local, secondary roads and highway rush hour stop and go. It really is more "severe" than "normal" driving which makes this oil even more impressive.

12ppm silicon is as high of silicon that I have seen and I also had 5 and 8. I wouldn't hang my hat on that 6 to 8 number. Judging from that aluminum number I would bet you all the tea in china you have an intake leak somewhere. Check the intake duct from filter, hoses, seating of pvc valve etc.

Al, All the hosing and connections are tight. As I mentioned previously the airfilter box is really "weak" compared to other's I've seen. 2 tabs in one end and 2 weak spring clamps in the opposite end. There are no clamps on the sides of the airfilter box. I guess my last hope is to duct tape the airfilter box
dunno.gif
. Anybody else have the same filter set-up and high silicon #'s and what did you do to correct them?

Remember a TBN of 1 by Blackstone is a TBN of 3 to 3.5 by the "usual" testing methods used by other labs. Also the Schaeffer's starts out at around 7 TBN so a TBN of 3 to 3.5 after 8,000+ miles is pretty good.

Those results are hard to beat. I have 3 used oil analysis of Schaeffer 15w40 Blend coming in any day now. Hopefully they will be as good as yours Whimsey. I buy my Schaeffer's by $250 order bulk and it comes out to $2.72 qt for this fine oil.

I wish I could convince enough people to go in with me for a group buy in NJ/NY. Mikep, Buster and any other NJ/NY members are you listening
grin.gif
? It's a great oil at a great price. Even if you order small quantities and pay shipping it's usually less expensive than Mobil 1 in quart bottles bought at Walmart. But the $250 wholesale purchase is a GREAT buy.

whimsey , Tim in se Texas is trying to do the same thing. It really only takes two guys. Figure 6 cases plus a case of neutra or penetro citrol etc. 3 cases per family 2 cars.= years supply.

Wow, excellent report
cheers.gif
! I too wonder about the tbn of 1 and how much longer it could survive. You are a brave soul that is for sure. Now, be very very nice to ol' Mikep or else I'll tell your better half how you are "experimenting" with her truck! LOL

Two or three oatmeal stouts at Kroughs would probably be enough to buy my silence....at least for a month or two
