Would there be any problems/concerns with using Schaeffers 9000 5-40 in a 1998 VW Jetta 2.8 ltr gasoline engine? i have been using Castrol 5-40 but i have a supply of the Schaeffers available.

If it was my car I'd prefer the Schaeffer over the Castrol. The Shaeffer 9000 is a true PAO synthetic. There should certainly be no worries or concerns over switching. If it's easily available I say lucky you, lucky car, go for it!

Some might accuse me of having a bias in favor of Schaeffer- OK, they might be partly right! If so, there's good reason for it. To see why, search the UOA section using my name of member # to see results from at several runs with Schaeffer 7000 syn blend 10w30 SL.

Schaeffers' 9000 is not a true PAO. It is a group III/group IV blend. I am not slammering this product. It is an excellent oil. It is one of the best values in oil today.

I stand corrected!

Looked it up on the MSDS sheet at Schaeffer's website, & sure enough, it lists 20-25% PAO.

I thought it was a new addition to their former all-synthetic line. Those don't seem to be listed now- maybe they've been discontinued?

Oh well- I'd still choose it over the Castrol.

Even though it is a group III/group IV blend it is probably just as good if not better than M1 and it cost less. This oil is a bargin.

I've used it in a GMC 1500 V6, and it was noticeably quieter and smoother running. Excellent oil for $13 a gallon.

i can tell you this much..after the oil change the engine was noticably "softer" sounding...most definitely quieter running. i realize that is no indication of protection just an FYI...

I'm running Schaeffer #9000 5W-40 in my Volvo and my Toyota. The Volvo has just rolled over 5000 miles, and I'll send a sample to the lab very soon. I expect very good results from the 9000.

If it costs less than M-1, then it must be under $4.20 per quart - based on the 5-quart pricing at Wally World.

I would like to see a Schaefers 9000 8K UOA from an independent lab like Blackstone someday.
