I have seen schaeffers 5w30 provide some great used oil analysis and was thinking about purchasing a case for my 97 cavalier. Would a schaeffers syn blend out preform a full syn? The reason I ask is because the local walmart sells Mobil 1 5w30 for 3.87/quart which is .37 cents more than the schaeffers not including shipping charges I would have to pay for the shaeffers.

I prefer the Schaeffer's but I don't find that much difference. How much is the shipping charge?

Salesrep, the Schaeffer site sponsor, is based in IL so I would think that your shipping charges would be less than $15. It has performed really well for my wife's 2002 Explorer, 8,200 mile OCI and a real good UOA report. It's just not the base oil but the total "package", the base oil plus additive package, that counts. Schaeffer's seems to be really well balanced all around for extended OCI's with good used oil analysis. I like it

Both the Schaeffer's Pure Synthetic and the blend outperformed Mobil 1 for me.
Can the schaeffers 5w30 syn Blend be run year round (30 degree average winter, 85 degree averege summer temp) or should I use the 10w30 in the summer. The reason I ask is that I can only find schaeffers by the case and I don't want to buy 2 cases.
The only advantage to some 10w over 5w is that they thin less from shearing over time. This is not a big issue for Schaeffers as both have an HTHS of 3.5. A lower viscosity is always better for start up regardless of ambient temp and they're the same weight when warm.

My wife's 2002 Explorer is using Schaeffer's 5w30 Blend year round. We have hot summers and very cold winters and it performs great. With the last OCI at 8,200 miles I had an UOA with Terry's analysis and other than a persistently slightly elevated silicon reading it was really good. In fact I'm going for a 10,000 mile OCI with using LC and FP. Shhh... don't tell the wife

I converted to Schaeffer's from Mobil 1. I run it in my 2.5L @ 4.0L TJ's, 3.8L Monte Carlo @ my H/C LS1 SS. All these vehicles except the 4.0 Jeep were run on M1 before Schaeffers. My best used oil analysis on those 3 were using Schaeffers.

For intervals less than 5,000 miles, Schaeffer seems to do as well as, if not better than, Mobil 1. The key is the additive package.
What really knockas me out about this tsuff is how stable it is. Mobil 1 starts out thin and most other mineral oils will shear out of grade after just 1,500-2,000 miles.
I've gone 5,000 miles on a number of changes and the oil is always in grade.
And, I got even better mileage with this stuff than I did when I was ufing Red Line.

As Bror said, the stuff stays in grade. Do not be afraid to run the 5w30 year round. I have used both the 5w30 and the 10w30. I am going to move exclusively to the 5w30. Both my vehicles seem to like the 5w30 better.

I switched from Amsoil and mobil 1 to Schaeffer's and noticed a MUCH smoother running motor and better mpg. An outstanding oil.
