Schaeffer Oils

I'm pretty much convinced that Schaeffer's would be best for me. My next change at the dealer's will be next week at 20K. That means that I have 16K to go on the warranty. Does it sound like a plan to let the dealer change it at 25K and then start with synthetic at 30K? I'll be out of the warranty in half the planned OCI with the synthetic. Also does it make any sense to put in a rinse cycle of regular for about 500-1k miles before the synthetic? I'm not inclined to do that since part of the reason to go to syn. is to limit my trips under the car. Although I keep referring to synthetic, I'm convinced that Schaeffer 9000 5W30 is the way to go and will probably be ordering by next spring.

That sounds good. I say the rinse is not needed. The big synthetic makers (M1, Amsoil) agree - just drain the old, put in the new and then go for your long OCI. Hopefully they are correct. I can understand your concern though. I play my own little games to get some peace of mind on that residual oil - I'll turn the engine over a half rotation (w/ no oil in it) just to possibly drop a bit more old oil into the pan to drain. I'll pour a half qt of cheap dino into the engine (after OC, with oil nut still off) to help rinse out the drain pan. I've thought about doing the rinse - if I were to do one, I'd take the old filter off, drain it, and put it back on - then fill engine with cheap dino, then run till hot and redrain. Then install your oil of choice. I see no reason to run a 500 mile rinse if you're just wanting to get rid of old dino. I'm probably a bit obsessive to do what I do and almost do what I almost do - we all have issues.

No, not for me anymore. If I want to stick to a blend, I can do the M7500 with no up front cost and no hassle. BTW, it also has delivered stellar numbers in Toyotas.

No up front costs? So they give you the Mobil? No hassle is involved and I buy a good deal more of it than most. To each his own. I know it's impossible to please everyone even if you gave them the product and delivered it to their door for free.

I have switched to schaeffers oil about 2 years ago,supreme 7000 in the wifes 2005 nissan maxima & supreme 9000 in my 2004 cummins diesel,very happy with both so far

I am getting ready to change out to schaffers in my Kubota RTV 900 and kubota ZTR.coobie

Mokanic, not sure what your point is here? No, I don't have to pay for 3 years of oil in advance. Was that unclear? If I catch it right, I can get the Mobil 7500 (+tax) for cheaper than the Schaeffer's with free shipping. Who is giving away oil and delivering it for free???

The hassle I am referring to is having 4-5 cases of oil, some even leaking, sitting in my garage for 3 years. Even that was half a $250 order.

I have used the last three mentioned with Schaeffer oils with great results. I am not a filter guru but have used them with good used oil analysis. Certainly Amsoil's EAO is a frontrunner in longer intervals. I use the EAO in one application and only change it every other oil change. That goes against everything I learned about oil&filter changes but the used oil analysis showed no ill effects and for what they cost you have to get extended life out of them to make them cost-effective. On the oil changes that the EAO is not due to be changed I screw it off and carefully drain out the oil that will come out. They have a thick gasket on them and I have not had one of them to leak after re-installing it. The filter isn't hard to access on my Toyotas and Hondas so I think it's worth the effort.

My Avalon has the cartridge filter and that is one reason that I want to minimize oil changes. Does Amsoil make the EAO filter in the cartridge configuration? If I could get two OCI's out of the filter, that would be icing on the cake! I'm sure a used oil analysis would be in order to verify that it was safe, but it would be worth extra $ for the filter if it worked.

I got two cases of Schaeffers delivered for like 100 dollars....24 quarts of oil at 4.17 a piece. Not bad IMO. Esp considering the quality of Schaeffers oil, and its a neat greenish colour....I just changed my oil in the RSX from Valvoline to Schaeffers.
