Scan tool suggestions

To save money, you can buy a used scan tool. The Innova 5510/5512 and 5610 are good choices. They are expensive new, but cost less used. Innova's site is very good at showing you what each scan tool does on each car.

A laptop + Forscan + Ford OBDII to USB adapter for Fords.
A laptop + TechStream + Toyota OBDII to USB adapter for Toyotas.

The rest, a handheld OBDII adapter that does graphing, and live data, and ABS Codes.

Either what others suggested or something like this will do to measure temp (bottom of transmission fluid pan):

I'd rather get a decent scan tool like Xtool D7 or so, mine paid for itself within first 6 months of use.

Another software option for the ELM dongles is Car Scanner ELM OBD2, which will give ATF temp for free.

There's a picture in the link above showing the A.T.F. temp of 141.8 for the '18 HYUNDAI Accent . Can't get it to read the '13 Fit A.T.F. temperature . Why ? 🤷‍♂️

It depends on what module in each vehicle displays the Transmission temp and what modules this scanner is able to access on each vehicle. Most cheap scanners cannot access all of the modules on these modern vehicles. They usually only access the ECM, ABS, and SRS and that is it. If the transmission temperature is displayed in the TCM module on the 13 Fit and this scanner cannot access that module then you will not see a PID for it. Maybe the Hyundai has this information in the ECM.
