Ok it was funny when it happened. I'm coming up I-87 heading south. Not too much traffic, I have the cruise set at 75. Anyway after a few minutes I see in my mirror a white Chevy SUV pulling up pretty quick, so I pull into the center lane to let him pass. Its a white police SUV. He goes on past.... About a minute later, a white cobalt SS comes ROARING up on my right hand side.

He must have been doing at LEAST 110. I watch, bemused as he blows past the cop... Who proceeds to turn his lights on and pull the dummy over. I was dying, he blew past the cop without even realizing what it was.... I dunno I thought it was funny and that I would share. FWIW, the cobalt had New Jersey plates on it....

A friend of mine got bullied out of the left lane by a Cayenne one time. The Cayenne then proceeded to goad a guy in an RS4 to race. The Cayenne lost badly, and when the RS4 slowed down he promptly swerved around it and sped off. Shortly after, a state trooper came flying out of a rest stop they were passing, and pulled the Cayenne over while the guy who beat him cruised by doing 5-over. I always liked that story.

Yep.

I was doing 15 mph over in the fast lane and I saw what had to be a ghost car up ahead in the fast lane going about 10 mph over. I got off the gas hard, and before I could pull into the slow lane a woman charged up behind me doing probably 30 mph over and rode my tail at about 5 ft out on the cell phone until it was safe for me to change back into the slow lane. It was pretty un-nerving and I'm a fairly aggressive driver when conditions are safe.

She burned past me and caught the ghost car in about 15 seconds riding his tail about 5 feet behind him bullying him for a good 1/2 mile until he pulled into the slow lane to let her pass. Oblivious, and chatting on the phone, she dropped the hammer and by the time she was past him was probably doing 10 over his speed which was therefore 20 over the limit.

He just pulled back into the fast lane behind her and flashed his lights and pulled her over and probably issued her a ticket for following too close and speeding. First time in a long time I've seen a cop actually writing a ticket for dangerous behaviour (which I have no objection to) rather than collecting road tax for otherwise law abiding citizens going 10 over on an empty road. Anyhow, my wife and I found it pretty entertaining and justified too.

I was once cruising along in the slow lane doing about 65 in a 65 zone. I saw a BMW flying by me in the fast lane going at least 90. It irritated me that he was being dangerous around me and I hoped he would get pulled over. I got my wish. About a 1/2 mile ahead I saw a cop on the side of the road. I saw the BMW approach him and slam on his brakes, but it was too late, the cop already had his lights on and was pulling out to pull him over. The BMW pulled right over immediately, knowing he was busted. It was quite satisfying.

I used to do alot of ~120 mile drives up and down I59 through the country, which is crawling with undercovers because of all the dope that gets moved on that road. Alot of people must not have known that, though. Almost every time I saw a car flying low, I'd pass him a few miles up the road being ticketed by an undercover. They don't seem to care about 10 miles over the limit, but they seem to like getting 20+ mph offenders.

Yes, in BMW-s you don't realize how fast you are going.

Was this in heavy traffic or something? Was he doing anything besides speeding to be dangerous?

This is true. My mother got her one and only speeding ticket in my BMW (35 years holding a license at the time). 80 seemed about normal speed for the thing. 55 ..just didn't feel right.

I don't know whether I love or hate this about BMWs. They do find their stride at some fairly high speeds (for American roads).

Mine seems to have abnormally heavy springs in the gas and clutch pedals. That makes it seem like it takes a lot more effort to go fast. I often feel like if it weren't for that, a few traffic courts would know me by name by now...

Oh I have done my fair share of speeding heavily lately. I have driven up and down the road enough to know where the police CAN hide, and where they usually hide. So occasionally there are 2-3 mile stretches that when there is no traffic, I'll open up in the fast lane to maybe 80-90. I hit 95 trying to catch up with my dad when following him back to NY from Ohio. My normal interstate speed is 75, and there are times where there is a good deal of traffic, and EVERYONE is moving at 80 so guess how fast I'm going...? But other than the highway I usually only speed maybe 5 over.

I think you just gave them a few suggestions.

Not that police have internet access or anything.

There were a couple times I saw this happen.

One time I was heading back to school on I-75, when a mid 90s Saturn was speeding and swerving in and out of the two lanes. A little bit later, a cop that had passed by me earlier, pulled him over.

The other time I was also heading back to school. A Scion tC was also speeding and swerving in and out of lanes. Right up ahead there was a speed trap with 5-7 FHP cars pulling people over and the tC was one of them.

It does bring a bit of satisfaction to see someone being punished for potentially endangering the lives of me and others on the road.

years ago on a state road a young adult and his woman were passing drivers ( us too ) on blind corners , double lines , and tailgating those that had the fortune to be in front of them and disappeared up ahead . Then further down the road there's the car on it's roof off to the side of the road with cop cars all about . Luckily no one was hurt , including the dips**ts in it .

Oh boy, here we go. Your questions are irrelevant. He was speeding, he was breaking the law. Period. My mother has a 2005 330ci. I KNOW BMWs are extremely well-handling vehicles that are "safer" to drive at high speeds than most vehicles. I don't know how skilled this guy behind the wheel was. For all I know, it could've been some 15 year old joy-riding in his daddy's car. I don't need anyone driving like that around me. What happens when some granny in her Buick doesn't check her blind spot and pulls in front of him?

I'll answer your questions anyway. IIRC, the traffic was not heavy. Doing anything else dangerous? No idea. I didn't even see him until he zoomed past me. Note in my original post I said "at LEAST 90." It was probably around 95-100. Just because someone has a fast car, does not mean they're above the law and get to go as fast as they want.

some buy vehicles ( especially larger ones ) with all-wheel drive , VSC , T.C. , and all other safety features thinking it will make it o.k. to drive aggressively in good or poor conditions . Not the case
