saved someone at Walmart

So day before yesterday when I was still in ohio, I was changing the front pads, oil, and the air filter on my uncles 2007 Fusion, and I walked into the aoil aisle, and I see a couple of guys standing in front of the oil filter book. I kind of ignore them as you normally would, and grab oil. I'm walking back, and I happen to get a glance of the oil they have- Accel ND30 Weight. At this point the BITOGer in me stopped and I asked them if it was for a car, they said yes, I told them they did not want to use that oil, because there was a good chance it would damage their engine. They just looked at me, and then put it back and thanked me for my help, they didn't know they saw it was the cheapest stuff on the shelf.

The told me it was for a 90s Mazda protege, so I handed them a 5qt jug of Pennzoil Conventional and told them to use that, along with the purolator filter. They thanked me again and took the stuff. I felt good, I just saved that poor protege from a non-detergent 30wt. Anyone have similar stories?

I saw a young woman around my age in the oil aisle the other day and I was waiting for her to make a mistake so that way I had a reason to talk to her. She ended up grabbing a Motorcraft filter and after looking the the oil for 5 mins she grabbed 6 qts of Quaker State Ultimate Durability. I was disappointed as she picked a great combo. Man was she good looking!

You stood there for five minutes for her to make a decision? After one or two you should have stepped in to offer helping her choose.

I am constantly amazed how many decisions are made on "what's cheapest." Cheapest for a reason.

I was thinking that.

Bumped into a guy yesterday when i was picking up "another" case of Citgo, he asked if 5w30 was ok for a Ford; I asked if it was a 4.6 and indicated 5W-20 is the actual weight. I pointed to the 5W-20 semi-syn for 2.75, but he was worried about mixing syn and "regular"; He ended up walking off with Mobil 5w30 for $3.79/qt. You can lead a horse to water...

I need another pair of hands to count the amount of times i helped someone who's purchasing auto related products.

The common thing for me is a girl or guy who don't know what to buy so they call someone and it goes like this.

"Hey, what type of oil should i get for the Civic?"
"I don't see any 20w50 here..."

That's when i'll step in after they get off the phone and recommend a 5w30 for their 98 Civic with 130,000 miles.

Hello, It's a combination of being a BITOGer, an outgoing person and wanting no one to suffer the destruction of their engine. In another era we'd be called "Holy People". Most recently, during the big, grand opening of a PEP BOYS near us I spied an older guy and his daughter buying the full compliment of special offers of Pennzoil Conventional and Purolater filters with rebate. 20 quarts of straight 30 in the shopping cart and they were juggling 4 different oil filters. I was happy to keep them from destroying their 1996 Toyota. They seemed like nice people. Kira

I have KnowIngly used Accel ND30 in many engines. Actually does pretty good. 1978 Toyota 20R, 1984 Jeep Cherokee 2.8V6, 1984 Jeep/AMC 2.5 4 cylinder, numerous Lawnmowers, roto-tillers, 4-Stroke WeedWackers, Snowblowers, etc of mine have been run with sometimes All Accel ND30 in their Sump, and Sometimes,just a top-off of Accel ND-30. Even my Beloved SilverStone Metallic 2001 Jeep Cherokees 4.0 Inline 6 has been topped-off with Accel ND-30.

This reads so funny. Just bustin' I've used ND-30 in the 14 lawnmowers I've had in the last 12 years and it does great...

A year or so ago was in the oil department and a little old lady asks the WM woman for help. The WM woman looked up the spec on her vehicle and told her it calls for a 5W30, but might want to consider a 10W40 because it is a "thinner oil". When the WM worker left, I told her that she would be better off just sticking to the 5W30, and that 10W40 is thicker, not thinner. She looked at me like I was stupid, because she had just been told by the authorities. She left with the Quaker State Conventional 10w40 jug and a cheap Fram filter the WM woman told her "was the best".

Reminds me of a time, I was walking into a grocery store and a woman in from of me dropped a wad of cash. I picked it up and said "Excuse me maam, you dropped some money". She snatched it out of my hand without a word, and looked at me as if I had tried to fondle her. Many would have spent that wad of cash in the store or kept it, had to be a few hundred $. Not so much as a thank you.

Another time, seen a woman carrying many groceries down the road from a grocery store. It was 108 out that day and felt bad for her. Turned around and asked her if she could use a ride home. Drove her for about 4 miles to her apartment. When I arrived a gangster looking thug in a wife beater ran outside yelling at her and hit my truck in his anger wondering "who the f is that".

These lessons in life have taught me sometimes it is better off just to leave alone...

Sadly I have come to the same conclusion, and I think that the situation in this country has become very grave with regards to moral and personal decency and integrity, and it is only going to get worse.

The phrase " No good deed goes unpunished" is not only what I have heard it is what I have personally experienced most of the time with most people I have had to interact with.
