Very good quality gaskets and seals, use them with complete confidence. Stay clear of DNJ and that other off brand garbage, they are not worth a P hole in the snow.

Thanks for the Victor Reinz vote, i had not heard of them,or dnj
but the dnj sounded and was priced like el cheapo chinese stuff.

The problem with DNJ and other off brand kits is you have no idea whats in there or who manufactured the parts.
If i have to take an engine apart or remove it or the transmission to replace a seal or gasket its getting the best part i can find regardless of the price difference.

Fel Pro, Victor Reinz, Elring and OE are on the very short list of gaskets i will use.

Please take some close-up pictures & post them, especially the condition of the rings.....

Thanks!!

Will do, curious how they look myself, the 02 in my sig does not use oil , I'm using SN syn in it now to keep it clean. Also the $500 98 saturn i bought for my sons g/f with 165k does not use oil either so it has QSUD in it.

I'm really hoping i don't have to bore the cyl.

they will be solidly carbon glued into the ring lands.not worn but hopelessly stuck.
if you replace the pistons this will be a great opportunity to test more aggressive cleaners and develop a ring freeing homebrew treatment.the one i did looked good other than frozen oil control rings.had to break them out!drilled the pistons, ran a a hone down each bore, and slapped it together with new rings.it has not used any oil since.

We will see, i have tried piston soaks, even 24hr berryman b-12 soaks. I have tried Kano labs Kreen, none have changed the oil consumption.
So i am curious to see the oil control ring lands!
I will take photos and put them in a new thread.
Raining here now, so don't know if we will get it hoisted out. Its ready to be lifted from the engine bay.

That is the thing sir! It is not the easiest thing to tell that you have the best part for the right application. It we went by price, we would all be using Redline Nitro 70wt racing oils for 3000 mile intervals with a royal purple filter for our four cylinder grocery getters. Sometimes some of us thing you get what you pay for. You just never know do you? A three dollar quart of conventional may provide better results than a twenty dollar quart of group 'six' ultra platinum super synthetic....lol

I think what Trav is saying is over time you can see what particular parts work the best in a particular application. For gaskets, Fel-Pro, Victor-Reinz, B-A, OEM, or Cometic are the favorite a lot of times. I know people that swear by Fel-Pro for everything, where others, like me, prefer Cometic MLS head gaskets for our Ford builds.

Then you get people like me that insist that all fasteners be ARP studs.

On rock auto i see DNJ gasket set $76 , an enginetech set $88, and a victor reinz set for $134.

Worried about the DNJ stuff. Is victor reinz good quality?
I can't find a felpro complete set.
Thanks

Like I said before: you buy garbage, you get garbage.

consider how much labour cost for RE&RE, I typically insist in using the best quality ones (incl. OEM stuff), and never short-change anything like offbrands.

For certain fixups, I typically uses fel-pro or Victor Reinz.

Q.

Definitely do not want to cheap out, with the labor of pulling and rebuilding the engine, just was not familiar with Victor Reinz.
From the feedback here, it must be top quality, so i'll most likely use that.

I plan to use Sealed Power for the chain set, rings, bearings etc

Should you put break in oil or grease on any gaskets upon assembly to "treat" them? Or maybe install dry and forget about it?

It seems a special dressing might make them outlast untreated ones.

That sir is called experience and expertise and the reason for forums like this so you can ask someone with both. LOL
