I just don't know who to blame? American workers(especially Union workers) who are hungry for large sums of money for doing just factory work, or American leadership who wants $$$$$$ period.

I can see parts made in the USA, IF people are willing to pay for them. But with people looking to make the most out of their dollar, I don't see American workers willing to work for the same wages as the Mexicans and Chinese. [/quote]

That is all nice. I didn't ask you how your car was put together. When I go to buy parts, I simply ask if there are American parts for that application. If there are. I buy them. OBVIOUSLY if they aren't available, they aren't available. As for the rotors, There are American rotors available. Yes, Delco rotors are made in China. Their pads are not.

I don't get it, Just factory work?

You want to pay minimum wage to someone building your Many thousand dollar Automobile that will move you and your family?

I guess you feel they should make the same as a person making plastic cups?

I had the same thing happen. I recently replaced the radiator hoses on my Mercury. I bought all Motorcraft hoses. On the sticker it stated in several places - "Made in Turkey." So much for an American part!

The the GM Advantage is their econony line. The pads are made in the US, and the rotors are just your common China imports in a GM/AC Delco Advantage box

There are? Last I knew there was not one manufacturer left who makes them here. There are some that take blanks from other countries and machine them, but none left that do the whole thing.

If that's working for you, more power to you mate, because it's getting harder to find stuff actually manufactured in the US.

That said, I realise you haven't asked how my car was built, but with all due respect, neither has the OP asked you where you prefer your pads to be made.

Should a waitress at a $200 a plate five star restaurant get the same 15% tip as one slinging hash at Friendlys?

What value is added in vehicle assembly? What safeguards and checks are in place so my car doesn't spontaneously disassemble itself driving down the highway with my family in it?

Looking through NHTSA recalls, incorrect assembly, missing parts, wrong torque is a minority. Usually it's a cheezy part that some bean counter in a white collared shirt took all the strength out of.

This matches my experience with used cars. The assembly has been excellent-- over all makes and countries of origin-- but some parts are flimsy. Of course out of thousands of parts one has to fail first.

To the contrary. He asked what we thought of those pads and I said I would only use American pads. I guess I should have said I wouldn't use them. I thought it was implied so I'm sorry if I was vague.

Sorry for the delay, but I finally have some pics up. As far as to where parts are made, I'd rather buy something USA built, but I also would buy something that is made in another country as long as it was a quality product. I guess if I had a choice, it would look like this:

US
Japan
Canada
Europe
Mexico
China

That's the fanciest brake box I have ever seen. I get my pads from Autozone (Duralast) and they're just brakes loose in the box.. no padding or anything.

I know, that is what I was saying. Someone in their marketing department did a great job on the packaging. It is almost too pretty to have brake pads in it lol

+1

I just went through this when I did the brakes on my Hyundai. I couldn't find any that were USA made. Unless you find NOS parts somewhere, you likely won't be able to find them.

You may be able to find some specialized, high-dollar ones. But for OE replacements, I doubt it.

You could try EBC. They used to say that all their rotors were made in the US or UK, but just recently changed it. Now even they say that they sources parts from many countries, including china. But, they could have UK made rotors for your application.

This is taken from their website:

http://www.ebcbrakes.com/automotive/ebc_premium_replacement_rotors/index.shtml

Quote:
None of our competitors will ever tell you where their rotors come from and we at EBC are as disappointed as the rest of the world that cost pressure means there is not ONE foundry left in the USA to supply such parts

From the pics, the packaging is very impressive.

Where did you get them from and how much did they cost?

I got them from Napa. Parts of their Altrom line. They actually have a pretty good selection of parts for imports that you don't see that often. I also have some Advics pads which are hard to find but excellent. They have a lot of Import OEM's available also. Dealer cost on them was about $35

I just checked and the regular price through NAPA would be $66 for my Sonata. More expensive than I expected.

When I did the brakes I went with made in Canada Bendix CT-3 for $46 shipped for the fronts.

I know that GM uses a Korean Based company for calipers, and pads on a lot of new vehicles. The company has factories in the US, but I can't remember it's name off the top of my head. When I feel like it I'll peruse the Edmunds Long Term test for it, I saw it somewhere.

Not a big fan of the of the bednix pads. What engine do you have? If for some reason you wanted to try them, my cost is $40 and figure $5 to ship them to you.

I have seen Mando brake calipers on new GM cars, and Mando makes a variety of parts for Korean cars.

Anyway, generic USA made rotors do exist in some cases. I have used many USA made brake rotors on the front of 2007 and up Chevy Silvarados. They come from NAPA.
