Closing Glenwood State Hospital School. Had many friends work up there for years. It was opened in 1836.
One local family had a Son that pretty much lived his life there.
He was in the same nursing home that I was, about this time last year. Lived in a wheel chair and could not speak.
Not sure of his problem at birth. He really made me think about his handicap. Mom would come and visit a few times per week.
Got him chocolate milk and fed it to him with a straw. Someone would have to spoon feed him every meal.
A nurse one day was messing with him. Put the spoon to his lips, then pull it away when his mouth opened. After about the third time,
he got a smile on his face. First and only time that I ever saw him smile!
It was that day, I could see a human side in him, not just a vegetable. Really made me think of what was going on in his head.
Might have been smarter than me, who knows and the body just limited him.
