I have a 2005 Saab 9-3 Linear 2.0 turbo. I was recently told that an oil change costs over $120 w/ a 15K OCI, the manual requires Mobil 1 0w-40 oil. Is there anything else that is compatible that might be available in a 5qt jug at wal-mart? $8/qt is the going rate around here for Mobil 1 0w-40, with 6 qts required, its pricy! Any suggestions?

You can't get it in 5-quart jugs, but you can get oil/filter specials with GC 0W-30...that would be a good oil.
If you really want a multi-quart jug for an oil that will suit, Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30 or 10W-40 might be an idea, OR Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 HDEO.

Just wait until it goes on sale, then stock up. AAP just had a sale that ended yesterday - $3.99/qt. O'Rileys has it on sale for $5/qt sometimes.

If i get a certain kind of Oil at $12 a quart, id come close to that.

My Lexus dealer is only $39.95 for Synthetic blend.And $62.95 for full Synthetic.Although it only takes 5 qts.

Hey Ferrari tune-ups w OC included cost $3000 and up so why so cheap yall.
btw, IF i had Oil that had a pretty price, id hope it was right for my engine and really over $8 a quart is when i think Oil costs too much, as the boutique oils cost more than that and Castrol Edge costs that too. Everything else likely costs less.
Its that or your motor. Some junkyard motors cost $500 or $600 if it gets to that point so whats up?

Are there any specific certifications or specifications of Mobil 1 0W-40 that make it the right product? Maybe there are others that meet the requirement that have come out since 2005 that will fit the bill and keep any warranty police happy.

My MB dealer wants $250 with a 1 day free car rental for service "A" 5 years ago, which was basically an oil change with 8.5 qts Mobil 1 0W40 with some visual checking. I bought Mityvac, oil filter cap wrench and oil+filter (on sale with rebate) so the total cost is less than $30, sometime less than $20. The Mityvac was more than paid for itself in 1 oil change. Last I hear, they want more than $300 now.
