Was the plastic case the culprit (trapping in humidity)? It was basically in a climate controlled closet next to a constant heat source all year, humidity shouldn't have been a problem???
I feel lucky its mostly cosmetic, just makes me mad...
Longterm storage in a case will rust guns. Moisture in the padding can do it in a hurry.
For me, No one oil or cleaner applies to all situations. Frequently used guns get a light oil, Long term storage get gun grease.For some older muzzle loaders or reocurring rust, I have had some success with cutting a gun oil with WD or Remoil to help them creep. Oil the patch and give a light spray of the penetrant.
