Rust preventitive for problem firearms ???

Thanks to all that responded about removing rust. I'm past the preventative point. A little more info. Our Home was lost in a fire a while ago. Most of my weapons were secure in sealed metal cases. This one was not, it was exposed to quite a bit of water during the firefighting process. I used the 0000 steel wool and some light oil and that removed 95% of the rust. I had the gun submerged in oil for a few months. I then completely disassembled the gun to check all the internal parts. The action and cycling works fine, there was no heat damage. It's just the last remaining surface rust I was trying to remove. Here's a picture of the room the gun was in and another picture showing the fire devastation. My wife, daughter and I got out okay. We also managed to save 3 out of our 4 kitties. Our oldest kitty didn't make it out.

LPS-3 Has always been good for me. It evaporates to a waxy/greasy film that really prevents rust. I live on the Gulf Coast so I have to really FIGHT that oxidation battle!
personally I like the Birchwood Casey Barricade. I have a pistol that always seem to creep up with a tiny spot here or there. Since I've used that (I spray them down somewhere betwen 9-12 mo.) no issues.
Stinks though. I spray all my guns down and end up with a headache by the end.

Longterm storage in a case will rust guns. Moisture in the padding can do it in a hurry.
For me, No one oil or cleaner applies to all situations. Frequently used guns get a light oil, Long term storage get gun grease.For some older muzzle loaders or reocurring rust, I have had some success with cutting a gun oil with WD or Remoil to help them creep. Oil the patch and give a light spray of the penetrant.

You'd be hard pressed to beat eezox as a rust inhibitor. Corrosion X Aviation and Breakfree Collector are also fantastic products for what you are after.
