I am looking for something that I can pack around the front wheel bearing retainer clips on a Corolla so I can get them off easily the next time. What ya got ???

I use a product called PasteLub on many vehicle/outdoor surfaces with fantastic results. Just a paper thin layer smoothed on by hand. https://goodson.com/products/bpl-2400-pastelub-brake-lubricant The original product was tenacious, with superb water resistance.

Unfortunately, they changed the formula and I am awaiting long term (1 year+) results.

I have to wonder if any grease exposed to the elements is not going to slowly dissappear. That said, if it's just metal to meal, I'd probably use whatever grey anti-seize is, as I use that in various other spots on the car. Then spray over it with Fluid Film or RP-342 or whatever what one wants to use to prevent rust.

Cosmoline, Its what it was designed for. I dont know how long it will last open to splashes but I can testify how hard it is to get off metal and the fact that it takes about 10 years to start drying out.

RIG: have used this on a lot of firearms stuff. Have used it in the military also with success. Currently experimenting with it to quell corrosion between my steel lug nuts and aluminum wheel. I’d say it’s like 80-90% what cosmoline is (IIRC Outside of legacy Military stuff (exempted from legislation) real cosmoline was killed off due to carcinogenic concerns). BUT Brownells makes and sells a similar product under their hose brand (have not tried it).

Pic of the application? Typically, OBCS grease as well as aluminum complex has better washout and water resistance than lithium. WD-40 Specialist multi-purpose grease, Red Line CV-2 and Lucas Marine Grease are OBCS, almost all Schaeffer’s is aluminum complex.

RP-342/Cosmoline will not let off metal easily. I had some on a battery hold down as overspray. A few years later, I had to use brake cleaner and razor blades to get it off. It works best on non-mechanical parts.
