The ones I want came 20 on a card with an installation tool and were "one time use". Need these for my Honda TRX 500 with a cheap [censored] oil pan design. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you referring to what was called a "butt" plug? Look at a website called "Sure Seal Products", seems Honda's and Acura's are notorious for bad oil drain plugs.

I've seen something similar at PepBoys. It didn't require a special tool though, it had a nut in the middle that you turned which expanded the large rubber plug to fill the drain hole.

I'd not want to use this except for a limp home situation though.

Thanks for the replies but neither of these will work. This is on a Honda Foreman 4 wheeler. The threads are not in the drain hole but instead inside and above. I have tried the rubber plug mentioned but it is too big. I may try enlarging the hole if nothing else is available. I have now read that Honda recommends using a torque wrench to tighten the plug because the threaded part will break away from the case so easily. Wish I had been warned about this when I bought it.

It might be worth looking on the internet/Ebay to try to find a replacement drain pan and just replacing the whole thing. Will cost a few more bucks, but in the end getting it fixed right will let you sleep better at night.

If you do replace the pan, go ahead and buy that torque wrench and torque the pan bolts per the mfg's specs.

Getting the drain plug over-tight is a common problem. I know from my own experience. I've found replacing the 0-ring each time helps prevent this. Although your particular application may differ.

Good luck and safe 4-wheeling.

Those plugs may work great on your pan. Who knows? Sometimes they fail initially or down the road.

As an alternative, can you tap the hole to slightly larger threads? Maybe use an SAE instead of /Metric tap? Auto parts stores carry all sorts of replacement oi drain plugs that you can choose from. About $2.50

If I'm thinking of the same thing you are I believe I used to see them in the JC Whitney catalogs and in some magazines. JCW has pared down their offerings a good bit and may no longer carry them.
Good Luck,
Fiream
