I have just done a Pump Rub and Rear Main Bearing upgrade on my NVG246 Autotrac transfer case(4 Buttons, Auto4WD,2Hi,4Hi&4Lo)in my 2002 2500 Suburban. The General's Owners manual for this Truck says that I must use Autotrac II fluid because there are additives(friction modifiers)in the fluid that lubricate the clutches and prevent chatter. I have been looking for an alternative full synthetic fluid to use in place of the Autotrac II fluid which is basically just FM modified Dex III that is blue in color. I have read and spoke with RP and was told that their Synchromax would be a good substitute for the Autotrac fluid. They claim it's spec'ed much better as well and will work fine with the clutches in the TC. Has anyone, or does anyone know of anybody that has used Synchromax in place of the Autotrac II fluid. Even if you haven't done this I would like opinions on whether I should do the switch or stick with the Autotrac II fluid. Also, if anyone knows of any other company that makes a synthetic substitute, I'm listening.

There is no aftermarket specific Autotrak II replacement fluid from anyone. If you were under warranty I would say don't use anything but the GM stuff. You are not under warranty so that allows you to use an aftermarket fluid like Synchromax if it will work. RP's Synchromax is some great stuff however and has been used succesfully to replace another GM fluid with no real aftermarket replacement = Versatrak fluid.
The guys at RP tech support, and especially the head of the dept( David C ), are straight shooters however. If they tell you their Synchromax fluid will work as a replacement for it I would believe them personally. If they don't offer something that will work they step right up and say so.
It is your call however as you would be footing the bill if it did not work. I have never used( I personally owned a couple 4WD Silverado's that called for it ), nor sold when I worked in the auto field, anything to replace that fluid nor do I know anyone who has. Everyone just bites the bullet and pays the ridiculous price for the Autotrak II from the dealer. I can't back up RP tech saying it will work with any personal experience, work experience, or 2nd hand info for you.
All I can say is my experience with them is they tell you the truth straight up and don't twist, manipulate, or lie to make a sale. If it works they say so and if it doesn't they say so.

Anecdotal Report: My neighbor and friend uses Synchromax in his '03 K1500 AutoTrak t-case (NV243?)and has for about two years, including two tows of his 28-foot trailer to Florida for the winter. RP was called prior and said it was fine. This far, it has worked fine.

Actually, the transfer case in a 2003 is an NVG246(Same as Mine)so this is good info to know. Thanks, That's the type of info I wanted to hear.
